“Tome...drake? Like a book? W-Why does that mean I can’t have friends?” Kanu whimpers as he stares at the back of his father.
“Bud, he never said you couldn’t have friends… It’s just...well…” Valber gently licked at the younger male’s face cleaning any tears that’d fallen onto it. “Unakin…”
Un turns to look down at his mate and adoptive child before sighing. The anger that was amongst his face had quickly dispersed to become what looked of resentment. “Yes, Kanu… Tome as in a book, but not just one of any kind, a special book.” He pauses. “You see, your Dad and I knew another dragon like you. Same abilities, same odd colored fur and scales, same eyes even. I asked him the same question you asked me.” Unakin’s large tail would gently sweep across the rough floor to gently wrap around Kanu’s tail. “Your blood, it has too much magic in it, so, it stores it somewhere else. Somewhere only you know and can get to called a pocket dimension. What happens there is it becomes s-solidified, more defined into a tome.”
“Okay, but how come I never get to read or see them or-”
“Well, you’re still really young Kanu. Learning your abilities is something that practically forever in all honesty. Even your Dads don’t know everything about themselves quite yet…”
Kanu’s gaze went towards the ground, his head swirling a bit with the sudden information just given to him. “So, then what I do is normal right? Those little squeaks that I have everyday, did that happen to him? I-Is he far from home? Maybe we can go visit him...he could explain more of what’s wrong with me.”
Valber threw Unakin a hard glare followed by the slight shake of his head. “No… Um, we can’t do that right now Kanu, it’s too big a trip.”
“And there’s nothing wrong with you love, you’re just a little different is all. Aren’t you proud of that?”
“No!” Kanu snapped back abruptly. “I-I… No… I always accidentally cause some kind of trouble because of this thing in my head. I’ve hurt you and Dad… I can’t ever fly on my own because I’m missing a stupid wing, I can’t even hunt properly with it… I’m not proud…” The drake softly began to sob as his chest and chin began to sink to the floor, his wing shifting to shield his face as he cried.
“Ah, Kanu…” Un sighs before retreating back into the cave to embrace his adoptive son. “There’s nothing wrong with you, different or not.” He gave him a hard nudge against the rump before licking his back. “You’ll always be perfect to me and your other father, no matter what happens. I’m sorry that it might be tough right now to make friends and deal with squeaks, but it’ll all be worth it in the end, you hear me? Your father and I will love you no matter what…”
