Here's a commission for my very generous friend. He loves the 80s. I imagine his character here at some sort of club or bar, about to play some darts or pool. He's just chilling at the bar, greeting his buds. Thanks again for the commission!

Do I really have to explain? Not only is it overrated in my opinion, but...
Too many sappy power ballads, overproduction, attempts at commercializing less accessible genres like heavy metal, excessive overlaying and/or reverb on the instruments in '80s music, adult contemporary radio was becoming a thing in the '80s, drum machines or drums with too much reverb on them, repetitive lyrical themes, awful and hammy singing... everything about '80s music just smacked... well, '80s. It was awful. It was cheesy.
While it sort of made sense for new wave to be electronic, it didn't make much sense for synths to be prevalent in all other forms of rock and pop music at the time apart from money or that they were easier to play than actual instruments. New wave has been made part of the broad group of electronic-based styles known as electronica, which is intended for at-home listening but may be danced to as well. However, synths just became prevalent in all forms of rock and pop music without a good reason and '80s synths have aged more horribly than disco has.
