Science officer Soldel Log entry #56.
>Voice Record Start: Date 10/25/7865 7:30:45 GRST.
Acting Geologist and Gem-caster Soldel Glados aboard catafalque-class cruiser "Victoria". After retrieving samples from the nearby class F planet I set to work seeing if terraforming processes could be arranged. The Council is adamant in our exploration to find suitable planetoids to colonize or at the very least chart pathways and find out whats in the sector we've been sent to patrol. Frankly I feel the Council should mind it's own business and focus on their own system first before expanding, buuuut they were kind enough to give me a spot in their ranks.
>I added some of the gene-silicates to an organic host growing from the planet, a typical looking bonsai tree from a temperate forest; the Bonsai itself looks and scans similar to that of a twisted juniper native to Rutera. After 3 weeks the leaves and root systems have crystallized. It's clear this planet is graced by Terriana of old. The emerald leaflets growing from the bonsai should provide enough nutrition to treat most common wounds the crew will suffer.
>A red rhodonite formation was found in a large cluster attached to an organic slime within a snow-capped mountain range. The slime was inert and a byproduct of the crystals formation; and the area surrounding the gem cluster was cooler than the surrounding mountain top. Bringing it aboard was a concern as soon as I was exposed to ambient heat and air, let alone my own presence, as it began to rapidly grow around my hand and forearm covering the affected areas in that pus. The small 3 oz sample had grown to the size of the average human before I had managed to contain it in a deep freeze; all other traces of the gem were quickly frozen with fire suppressant systems and vented into space. I still can feel it drawing on my warmth when I'm near it, the red energies inside that large cluster pulsing as if alive. I'm thankful my species can survive extreme environments; the rest of the crew have me under quarantine until I have absolutely every last speck of it dumped out of the nearest airlock.
>The most infuriating project thus far has been this opalescent cluster found growing on a silver alloy plateau. The gem itself contains a volatile ooze that carries enough energy to short out any unprotected equipment. I lost 2 scanners and 3 holocards from the small amounts on my fingers after handling it. The surface is smooth and brittle to the touch, Scans show the insides are honeycombed like bird bones with that blue ooze inside. It's been a pain and a half to keep the sample "Stable" in it's containment unit, my monitors showing it shift slightly over a time-lapse; like watching a plant grow and shrink it's leaves during a time-lapse. None of the on board systems are showing a power drain and I swear the thing cracks if I stare at it for too long. The ooze spitting out as the cluster seems to funnel back into the cluster through the ever-shifting Honeycomb; this could be the primodial ooze for life to start on that planet once it matures. First chance I get I'm dumping this.... -thing- ... back where I found it.
End Log 15:35:27 GRST
Major Props to
Kartos for drawing up my beefcake of a scientist Soldel doing what he dose best; study and forge gems.
The original inspiration for this character was from an RP forum for Furcadia; sadly the only thing I remember is the species/planets name, Tali. So I remade him as a "Fire Gensai" Wizard for
thewolfhimself's sci-fi campain
