Jaime Torrence was always considered a superhero fanboy. (or fangirl, given that he was often mistaken for a female due to his crossdressing habits) From the heroes of old to the golden age crime fighters who were around when his grandparents were his age, even to the modern heroes of today. But Jamie had no mutations in his DNA, wasn't born on another planet, and didn't get a bite from a magically enhanced ant or anything like that. He was just a regular cat like so many others; often accused of being absent-minded at times by his friends.
That was until he found the ring...
One day poor Jamie's head was in the clouds after watching a superhero battle outside of his college campus. He wound up in the back alleys of the city's China Town where he found a small shop. The owner, a great, old panda, had claimed he "sensed" Jamie's arrival and had prepared a gift for him. The gift in question was a ring, said to have come from the heart of a long dead god of the eat; the blue stone of the ring said to be carved from his heart. Jamie, enthralled by the story, paid everything he had in his pocket for the ring before taking it home; the panda seeming to be happy it was in the hands of "one so pure".
Upon testing it for himself Jamie discovered the ring did indeed posses magical abilities. He could fly! He could conjure constructs out of the magical energy that came from the ring itself; things from swords and shields to cartoonish creatures he used to imagine as a child. And he could even change the very clothes on his body. And now, with a new sense of duty bestowed by this ring, Jamie finally had a chance to become the very thing he loved: a superhero.
Soon the city was amazed at the arrival of the new crime fighter, calling "herself" Power Maiden! (A means of keeping his real identity extra secret from those who would try to harm him and his loved ones) And just as he imagined, Jamie has been loving every second of it. Even in the darkest of times Power Maiden shines her ring to bring hope to the people.
