Physical Description
Winter Breath at first glance is quite obviously a tabaxi, having the feline features typical of her kin. Silvery fur coats her lissom figure: more suited to the life of a dancer or performer than to the life of an adventurer or fighter. Chocolate-colored fur spreads from her fingers and toes to about half-way up her limbs and also nearly completely covers her face. Two large sky-blue feline eyes dart around to take in the sights and reactions to whatever song or dance the tabaxi is putting on at the moment. Winter is rarely seen outside of her armor, typically lightweight metal like a breastplate, though she sometimes wears traditional tabaxi garb when relaxing. Scimitars are the woman’s weapon of choice: two of which are never far from her reach, and act as her spellcasting foci.
Personality and Mannerisms
On a quest to bring her own brand of beauty to a world desperately in need of it, Winter’s energetic and bubbly personality ensures her lofty goal is ever so slightly more tangible. Every situation is a stage on which the tabaxi woman can perform, whether the performance is to enrapture her audience or to deftly defend the allies and friends she’s made along the way. Winter’s amicable disposition is not without its faults, though, as she seems to take few situations seriously and often treats others flippantly. The woman is likely to also take risks to show off (especially to individuals whom she fancies), aiding the perception that she is reckless.
Truthfully, Winter does it all in good spirit, hoping that her cheery attitude and wondrous sword-dancing performances brighten the days and nights of all that can see her, passing on inspiration and stories as she goes. Winter Breath devotes herself to keeping her friends’ morale high, and their mugs raised even higher.
Biography
Even as a young kitten high in the Ocolan Mountains of Maztica, Winter Breath’s mind was already filled with the tales of the lands outside Maztica. Her clan, the Reflecting Caverns, is quite bizarre as far as tabaxi clans go: a larger clan of nearly 100 individuals with welcome contact with the myriad of travellers and explorers that pass through Far Payit peninsula. Protection through the mountain caves and trails that the tabaxi clan called home cost an intrepid adventurer only a good song or story.
It was one of these explorers that inspired Winter Breath with his account of a “Sword Dancer of the Sword Coast”. Completely smitten with the idea to become one herself, Winter long waited for the day where she could depart her clan’s home and travel to that far away land. In the years leading up to that, however, Winter spent most of her remaining youth practicing with sword and dance, and getting into trouble with her then-closest friend, Ash from the Sky. While Winter’s elders did not look favorably upon her shirking chores to play, it was no doubt Ash had much more pressure from their more isolated and traditionalist clan, called the Smoking Mountain clan. This often did not factor into the two’s relationship, and Winter grew to consider Ash her best friend.
But even the bond between her and Ash was not strong enough to keep Winter tied to Maztica. The calling to wander the lands and take up the enigmatic “sword dancing” path only became stronger, and when Winter was old enough, she left. With only a handful of gold coins and the clothes on her back, she travelled north to the Payit cities to sail to the Sword Coast.
When she arrived in Baldur’s Gate, Winter’s skill with a blade, her exotic tabaxi heritage, and her silver tongue all contributed to her discovery by bards affiliated with the College of Swords. Winter excitedly jumped at the opportunity to join them, and now runs a one-woman show throughout the city and beyond, gathering the fans and stories she dreamed of as a kitten.
Since the death of my previous character (though we'll ignore the fact that she was raised from the dead for now), I've been playing a tabaxi bard by the name of Winter Breath instead!
I have to thank both Lethal_Doors for this fantastic work (found here in his gallery: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/35218616/ ) and Seyumei (https://twitter.com/seyumei ) for tackling the very first commission of her without any image references.
