The latest in my series of "Compositions of a Stupid Autistic Mind," which are either repetitive on purpose or are just stupid little melodies I improvise. Why? It represents the annoying things I used to do as a child, which proved to my parents I really am autistic. This whole series of compositions are based on dreams I have from time to time, which are flashbacks of my childhood. These repetitive melodies, therefore, are generally either things I improvised and they stuck with me, or were based on things I discovered I remembered wrong. Alternately, they're sometimes relevant to a current event in my life, or just represent what mood I am in right now. This series also is a challenge for me to use specific MuseScore templates at least once (although I also modify settings on the templates to make it easier on myself).
This one, "Tick, Tock," is something I've been humming to myself for years, while making clicking sounds with my teeth, so it represents my childhood bad habit of making unnecessary noises, but always doing so in rhythm. I had a hard time imagining it for a full ensemble of sorts, and so I kept it minimalist. I also first did this while staring at the clock on my parent's fireplace mantle.
The piece is for xylophone, acoustic bass, and drum set.
