Shi Kirupri was once a mining prison built on a remote asteroids where inmates found themselves alternating between forced labor and time in stasis pods for rehabilitation through simulations. A civil war left the prison cut off from resupplies and forgotten as the empire collapsed. With no means of leaving the station and limited supplies, all prisoners and staff were placed into stasis in the hopes that rescue would eventually come.

After 20 years, the prison was rediscovered but not by rescuers. Taken over by a criminal warlord, the station became a trade hub for the criminals who would come to purchase the prisoners as slaves.

Atreyu is a smuggler captaining the Running Fox. It is a decent vessel that has been serving him well, though the climate control system runs hot requiring lots of coolant to function properly. Low supplies and a defecting mechanic led to a malfunction and an emergency stop in Shi Kirupri for repairs. Here, the captain purchased and recruited the mechanically-inclined Zakala. Subsequent events led to the liberation and recruitment of the medically-gifted Brimstone before making a hasty getaway under fire.
