This is another piece of what was to be a larger project commissioned by a friend who has since died. It accompanies Expressions of Light 12 finale and was to have been in the same picture framework. However, I've let it linger in the back of my mind since 2011 or so, and finally got the creative juices flowing well enough to finish it. I wanted it to be different from the fluffy, frilly, girly Expressions of Light 12, and therefore exercised some restraint when it came to picking the bits and pieces that embellish the background.
The angel himself was done with Prismacolor pencils over a watercolor wash, and has gold paint pen accents and just a leeetle bit of bling.
The background base board is watercolor, iridescent acrylics, and glitter. The black and gold round things are scrapbook paper, as are the blue right-angle things. There are acrylic tiles, metal studs, shell beads (paua and others), and one teardrop-shaped labradorite cabochon.

The only part that is colored by hand is the angel, and he took about 40 hours. I don't do that all in one sitting - or even all in one weekend. Usually, I spread it out over several days so that my drawing arm has a chance to rest. The background parts are easy - watercolor and salt, scrapbook paper that I cut into shapes, and various 3D bits that I glue into place. Those bits take a couple of hours, all together. ^_^
