There were ships of shapes and sizes, Scattered out along the bay.
And I thought I heard her calling, As the steamer pulled away.
The invaders must have seen them, There lay Thunder Child.
Moving swiftly through the waters, Cannons blazing as she came.
Brought a mighty metal warlord, Crashing down in sheets of flame.
Thinking fortune must have smiled. People started cheering,
Come on Thunder Child!!!! Come on Thunder Child!!!!

Hey this was done in 2020 by Baron-Engel over on DA(he also has a FA account here.) But this was what he did after talking and was commission by Drachinifel to give what the HMS Thunder Child looked like from the discription from Chapter 17. And this was what he came up with. https://www.deviantart.com/baron-en.....hild-836027008
No, I was not inspired by this boat for my painting. I was inspired by an archive image of HMS Majestic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majes.....bain_16923.jpg
But Baron-Engel did a really good draw of the Thunderchild, I did not know this drawing before you showed it to me.

So I don't like your comment "Hey this was done in 2020 by Baron-Engel" what! does that imply you're accusing me of plagiarism?, So Baron-Engel posted his version of HMS Thunderchild (really good drawing indeed) in 1rst April 2020 and that my painting the same you see here on FA is also posted on my DA and is from 19th March 2020 and this is just a colored version of an old sketch from september 2016. https://www.deviantart.com/leptitsu.....ture-834362258

No, I'm not accusing you of plagiarism. I was just sharing another's artist version. I've read War of the Worlds many times and Chapter 17 is my favorite since Wells practically describes what 20th-century Druadnaughts and Battleships would look like in WWI and WWII.
I meant no disrespect or accusation of you committing plagiarism. Art is open to interpretation by the artists who could be given the same subject to work with. And by the end, they've all made their own interpretation of what that subject looks like to them.
And truthfully when I think of the HMS Thunder Child. What I think of is something close to a Heavy Cruiser or Fast Battle Cruiser.

Hello, I'm confused, I apologize from the bottom of my heart. I am quite tense these days and I have misinterpreted your comment, it must be said that I am not an English speaker and therefore I don't have all the keys to understanding English as well as a person whose is the mother tongue. So I thought you were implying that I had posted someone else's illustration in my name, which annoyed me at first, now I understand my mistake
yes I have read the book several times. I love it, even if the French translation of the time bothers me at times, including the fact of having changed the name of the ship HMS Thunderchild to Le Fulgurant WTF! while paradoxically the word Steamboat which can be translated by Bateau à Vapeur, the French translator of the time left it in English. Fortunately I have a new version of the book with an improved French translation. I also have a collector's version of the book reissue of a French version from 1906 with illustrations by Henrique Alvim Corrêa.
Which adaptation of this book is your favorite? Personally, I really like the musical version of Jeff Wayne and the design of Spielberg's Tripods

It's understandable, I've made those same mistakes myself as well from time to time. Plus the tone of what is being said doesn't carry well in text form(I prefer speaking to people verbally in either person to person or through a voice chat application like Discord or skype).
And to be honest I really never paid that much attention to what edition of print and circulation of the book that I'm reading at the time. I simply enjoy reading regardless of who the author of said book is. Although if I could, I'd love to read a first edition and first circulation of War of the Worlds. But I know that trying to get my hands on that would be impossible due to the age of any remaining copies that may still exist in this world.
And I just recently discovered, the Musical version of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. And Spielberg did a good job in adapting War of the Worlds for the 21 century.
Although I did find a Manga adaption of War of the Worlds, and in the scene where the Martian Tripod uses their black smoke on the HMS Thunder Child. one of the panels shows the Captain and the crew that was on the bridge all suffering the effects of the black smoke. But they're still determined to take down as many as they could with them.

Yes it's true this manga I also bought it, it came out in French recently but for the moment there are only two volumes. It's true that this version is quite faithful to the novel. In any case this manga is much more faithful to the story than the BBC and Canal+ version. I don't know if you've seen these adaptations? After the design of the Tripods by Spielberg are awesome. The aliens who are not Martians in the 2005 movie, on the other hand, I like less, they look like the aliens from Independence Day and not like the description from the novel. And like many people I would have preferred that the Spielberg's version to take place in England in the same towns and villages as the novel. After I know that in the novel the Martians attack the United Kingdom in priority because in 1889 it was the first world power. The Spielberg movie is a contemporary adaptation, the US is the first power today, so it's normal that the invaders attack the US first, but despite this, in the Movie, we learn that Europe was hit harder than the US. Moreover in Independence Day it's also the cities of Europe which are destroyed first, In the USA in their movies they like that Europe is destroyed first LOL
Now I haven't seen the BBC adaptation yet, and well if you really think about it. If the Martians were to invade Earth, they most likely would hit all coastal, major populated cities, and any and large military bases first before establishing a beachhead and working outwards to deal with the smaller cities and bases.
And I think that in the case of Spielberg's War of the Worlds, he must have included that line in the film as a nod to the original source.

so if you haven't seen it, I won't tell you too much about it, you have to discover this series for yourself. When you see it, come tell me your opinion.
Yes it's true, in addition Europe is a small continent if you take only the Eur from the Eurasian continent;) It's a very densely populated continent with many large and important cities which are close to each other by example by plane from Geneva to go to london it only takes 1 hour and a half.
then as far as the military force of Europe is concerned, I don't know, I know that each country has its own army, even my country, Switzerland has an army and all the boys in my country are obliged to do their military service from of their 18 years old. There is not yet a European army, but with what is happening in Ukraine it will happen. Even if we aglomerate all the armed forces and arming the countries of Europe into an one army, I imagine that would be considerable.
