I read somewhere that he's suppose to canonically gay.

He was meant to be, yeah; Ken Penders wrote him being in a relationship with Original Echidna Character ™ Cobar in the "Mobius: 25 Years Later" arc, but when Flynn took over, he killed Cobar off as being a superfluous character and wrote off the reveal of Rotor's relationship as being "irrelevant", because it was made after Penders left the comic. What pisses me off about this, is that declarationt hat Rotor's love life was "irrelevant"; he could've done SOMETHING to establish where Rotor fell on that spectrum, and who - if anyone - he had feelings for, to help establish him as a character, but Flynn had stated that, at the time, he didn't like the character but wasn't able to kill him off due to Sega mandates, so he just left the guy to rot in his own non-characterization until the whole Iron Rotor thing happened. I prefer Rotor be gay, but I wouldn't have minded if Flynn changed that to having him be straight or by or even ace, just SOMETHING to establish that part of him. But, no, he was too busy writing about Antoine's and Bunnie's marriage and the love Gordian Knot between Sonic, Sally, and Tails. The fact that a) he insisted on keeping the former couple's marriage in the reboot, and b) his reason for saying Rotor's love life was "irrelevant" was because of it being revealed after Penders left, only to do the same goddamn thing with Sally and Nicole in the reboot comics AFTER the comic collapsed in on itself and died, makes me think that, despite him saying that Rotor is one of his favorite characters, now, he still doesn't give a shit about the guy.
