“Sir,” Security said in an undertone, “are you sure that’s wise?”
The elderly buck replied, “They’ve come all this way.”
He strode forward, and when he was three paces from the kangaroo femme he stopped. A moment’s hesitation, and he doffed his top hat. “Conducator Ion Calibanescu, of Tempest. Greetings.”
The femme bowed, straightened. “Mari Athenry, Chief Surveyor. Greetings.” She offered a paw, and a callused but still strong paw took it.
