It depends... in our stories and comics, lycans and werewolves can get sick, but since they have strong immunitary systems, they heal faster... but their own immunitary sistems can create allergy-like reactions. For example, it's their immunitary system that "hurts" them when they touch (or worse, ingest) silver.
The reaction to a very strong virus could be bad. Also, in this specific case, Sara would become a vector of infection for her kids and/or her friends and loved ones and this is not what she wants.
