Most of the time people seem to think of ravens as simply being black, but in truth, there is a subtle iridescence to their feathers which comes to life in certain lighting, or when you can see them close up enough. I wanted to do a painting that spoke to their hidden jewel-like qualities and to their inner worlds. The neighborhood where I live has ravens who are always in the trees or flying overhead, and while they sometimes look solemn, more often than not they are being social and are busied with an experience of the world I can only wonder about and will never fully know.
