thought would share some of the stuff doing for
thespiralaim's figure of Virea. doing her wings in resin so will be transparent and stuff. This is the same method use for my paw keychains and stuff.
Step 1: I drew out both parts of the wings on paper to the size needed.
Step 2: I put the drawn paper over a sheet of wax I made from an old candle. Then begin the carve it out. I use my jewerly tools from wax casting as well as a heat gun which is wonderful to smooth out the wax once done.
Step 3: put the carved wax on a smooth surface, in this case a sheet of glass, and started making the cast from liquid rubber. 5 layers is good enough for this. wait for it to dry then peel it off the wax.
Step 4: get the glitter colors i wanted. For some of it i mixed colors to get the right shade. then mixed up small batched of resin for each color.
Step 5: put one color at a time into the mold and wait to solidify a bit before doing the next color. Here had three colors and after all of them hard hardened enough filled in the thickness with clear resin before let sit under a heat lamp for a while till fully cured and then cooled.
Step 6: remove the resin cast from the mold let cure a bit longer and spray with a sealant which makes it all shiny.
one bit of wing done, three to go hehe
