After seeing Pixar's Ratatouille, my friend Terry and I always wanted to try the two main dishes, Potatoe and Leek Soup and of course Ratatouille. Terry found both recipes online and last week he made the soup. It was totally awesome! So tonight we decided to make Ratatouille. It was a bit of work and the presentation wasn't as nice as the 'CG version' but like the soup, it was very good!!

Someone asked for the recipe and Terry was kind enough to provide the link below so here it is:

My grandfather was the same for spaghetti sauce. Unfortunately, I never got the recipe from him before he passed away. I used to help him make it when I was a kid, but I only have a vague memory of what every "looked" like. I suppose I could try to replicate it from memory, but I am afraid of destroying what memory of his sauce that I have left.
As a culinary student, I would say that it looks very nice. The plating is a bit messy. I would make the serving size smaller and let some of the juices from the vegetables drain out a bit before putting it on the plate. But sheesh, not everyone is Chef Simon. Did you know they actually have entire classes devoted to different styles of plating??? It's ridiculous. Anyway, nice looking ratatouille. It 's one of my favorite dishes, despite its simplicity, and just looking at those pictures makes me hungry!
Also. Buy a floppy chef hat. They're so fun! ^^

Leek and potato soup has many variants. Here's the recipe that was referenced for the Pixar movie:

Oh okay, that looks like a variation of the Thomas Keller potato leek soup recipe someone else pointed me to: http://urbanfoodie.tumblr.com/post/253287548 ... I think I like the +garlic +shallots variant.
Looks tasty indeed. Yet you should know that the rat's allegedly innovative idea in the film about how to make ratatouille is merely substituting a traditional recipe for another. Intercalating ingredients similar to ratatouille in a dish is called "tian" (or "tian de légumes" or "tian provençal")

It was like making art! I went to different supermarkets determined to find veggies (roughly) all the same diameter, lol.
