Kinta-language movie poster for Talo ki Liju Ena (All She Has), a 1972 film centering around the happy marriage of a charismatic human man and a timid female kinta. Spoiler alert: after he realizes how much control he has over her influence and wealth, he gradually starts to exploit it for selfish and/or dubious purposes. She only looks like a monster, but his ego turns him into an actual one. Ultimately, he ends up ruining her life, resulting in some... drastic actions being taken, the specifics of which were altered to match the tastes of each release region.
The film was somewhat controversial, primarily for its portrayal of a sympathetic kinta - a species more associated with arrogance and conquest than romance or fragility. Many parts of the world were still dealing with the presence or legacy of kinta imperialism in 1972 and saw the film as an ignorant inversion of real-world issues. Interestingly, inter-species marriage with a kinta was not actually legal anywhere at the time, so some instead saw the film as a glimpse into a more tolerant future.
While reviewers generally praised the acting and production values of the film, it only broke even at the box office and did not prove successful enough to remain in the eyes of the public for long. Nonetheless, some people found it quite memorable and it amassed a small cult following. Perhaps that group included some legislators, as inter-species marriage laws were relaxed in the following decades.
