Will these bullets fit my gun?
I'm posting this because theres been a SERIOUS rash for first time gun purchases from people who've never touched a firearm or even basically walked into a gun shop or looked at a gun counter in a major sporting goods store. Many of these are also anti-gun types from the beginning.
At Cabelahs on Saturday morning, the manager told me that he had processed SEVENTY purchases of various types of firearms to FIRST TIME BUYERS in the first two hours!!! (Not counting the 15 they processed for those firearm knowledgeable,) Thats twice they normally push ALL DAY on Black Friday! I watched one woman, maybe 4'10" in height looking at a .45ACP handgun, asking "How does it shoot?" And "After this blows over I can return it right?" (The clerks reply was "No, but we'll buy it back for roughly 60% what you paid for it!")
The woman then said "I hate guns and don't support them, but I fear for my safety when the Alt-Right and Trump people attack me for my house supplies!" I looked at the woman and told her flat out "Then put the damn gun down anyway!! You DON'T NEED IT!!! Plus that thing is a cannon in your hands, too big!" But she insisted buying a gun and I pointed to a Bersa Thunder in .380 in the same cabinet "Thats more your size if you insist buying a gun you utterly hate, plus its half the cost of that .45." (She actually did buy the Bersa.)
While looking for 20 gauge shotgun shells for my ex, (her request!) I witnessed a few folks looking at a rapidly dwindling supply of available ammunition asking themselves "Will this fit my gun?" as they looked at shotgun shells. I asked "What kind of gun did you buy?"
They looked at each other and replied "Uh, its a handgun , a 9 speed I think."
I force a smile "What kind of 9 speed? A Schwinn? Rally? Huffy? Or maybe a Trek?" Both just frowned at me, "Its not a bike, its a gun, a 9 speed or what you call the bullet!"
I pointed out shotgun shells "Don't fit in a 9mm!. try looking for the ammo in the handgun load area. IF theres any left!" (They found ZIP!)
The cashier told me as I was paying for the needed 20 gauge shotgun shells, a customer bought a box of .218 Bee and .30 caliber carbine "Cause these MIGHT work in the gun?" For a 9MM!! Too late, can't return them!
Plus others reported First time gun buyers looking at big bore rifle ammo, asking if THAT will work in their shotgun they just bought. Despite being told what gauge of Shotgun shell to buy! Even shotgun buyer first timers were simply grabbing 12 gauge shells off the shelf for their 20 gauges or vice versa.
Okay...NEWS FLASH you noobs!! DO SOME DAMN RESEARCH FIRST BEFORE YOU BUY FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! Talk to others who are gun owners, talk to the store employees about that first purchase who will be more knowledgeable before being stupid or buying something you don't need, can use or can't handle. Especially with something so dangerous as a firearm!
The manager also pointed out "Safe bet I'll be buying back roughly 50% of those sold guns within a month AFTER this crisis blows over!"
Pictured in photo, my CZ P-10 C, 9mm, a .303 Enfield rifle round, 12 gauge shotgun shell and an actual 9mm pistol round...what SHOULD be loaded into the pistol!

This weekend, someone asked me via PM if I knew anyone who had an AR-15 for sale. My club had to close their indoor range due to orders from the state capitol to shut down recreational facilities. So no access to any bulletin board postings. Tried to steer him toward recently imported Chinese SKS in cosmoline for $300.
Only the Soviet capture one is unmarred (With original holster too!) My Chinese is a Former military with the "Get in the US added safety " variant. The Chinese added safety is actually far better than the Polish or Plastic massive Romanian model safety. The 9mm Yugo has a factory added safety that is rather well designed and utilitarian.
You say that your Romanian model has a plastic safety, or are you referring to the size of the safety requiring the plastic grip to be shaved?
My safety is metal, massive with the shaved grip. It is possibly a police pistol with no communist markings, made in 1953.
If it has a plastic safety, I would love to see that. Never seen one with that before.

I kinda agree here, and I'm a HUGE gun guy...
when I first started to get into guns mother forkers made it seem like you had to be cop or military to understand DICK about guns.
they were the dicks.
as a gun-guy I'm ore than willing to help first time buyers and newbies when I go to the gun store or pawnshop. I offer advice, and add disclaimers to my opinions because they are ONLY MY OPINIONS.
you want a highpoint? Uh, ok but there are better things out there... oh, you can only afford a highpoint? Don't get the 40 they suck because of bad design. either 45acp or 9mm. 9mm is a good coice because cheap and easy and ammo is USUALLY plentiful!
same thing when I got into homebrewing, blacksmithing, diesel mechanics, cooking, jering off... Fuckheads went out of their way to make it seem like THEY were the only ones with The Cosmic TRUTH and everyone else was just a looser.
>.< I Hate That.

The scariest thing is their outright stupidity. In which case them having the wrong ammo to use in their guns protects everyone around them (I won't say it protects them because if they go and point their new toy - and that's all it is to them a 'toy' - at someone knowledgeable with a gun they will most likely be shot in self defense.)
Even with the right ammo they are more of a danger to themselves than to any attacker, their whole 'knowledge' of guns is what they've seen on TV, so the safest place to be will be in front of whatever they're trying to hit.
Who knows, if this killer-cold clears up/out some of the dumber PC/woke crap we might all be better off for it.

And at 62 with a 81yo mom we are at 'greater' risk. But despite what some are saying/claiming, younger ones are dying from it too.
Even so, I and mine are in more danger from the jokers who know they are sick but go out anyway to spread it, the hoarders that keep me from being able to get the supplies I need than I am from the virus.
Of course what isn't being mentioned is that like its fellow common cold virus it will mutate as it is passed around, wther it will get more(or less) deadly by summer/fall is anyone's guess.
Do the best you can and good luck, it will be a changed world by next new year's day ...

Yeah me an a friend were talking about movie and tv gun stooopidity...
He pointed out that shotguns go "BOOM klack klack" NOT the other way around...
And I had a long moment of cringe as I recounted an episode of 'Fear the walking dead'.
I told him and he cringed too...
The episode had Blades using an OVER UNDER break action shot gun on a new zombie.
He shot the first found...then "Jacked" the fore grip and shot again...AND THEY DUBBED the sound of a pump action!!!!!
I could NOT believe they did that!!!
But that's prolly why there are so many idiots...they've been taught to be stupid.

One of the big 'BULLSHIT!' hits for me is all the actors running around with their fingers on the trigger - when they don't have a target in their sights ...
And we see it in the art here as well, you can tell if the artist has ever held a gun by where that finger is. Even had one that I pointed it out to try to argue the point. I told them, "Whatever you have them doing, startle/surprise/trip them, then see where the bullet would have gone. Yes, an idiot newbe might might do that once or twice - and hopefully not kill/hurt someone/something they care about, but the pros know better - or they wouldn't have lived long enough to become a pro."

Watch every single laser fight in 70s Doctor Who when they'd just figured out how to do proper beam effects. You'll find it hilarious, especially K-9's nose laser and the way people's knees are most vulnerable to it. Or anything directed by Pennant 'rubbish gun battles in the second half' Roberts, who couldn't pace such scenes to save his life.
Apparently this was a box of Defensive loads that was sold. I've seen 50 round boxes before of the regular hardball or softpoint ment for hunting. But regretfully didn't buy any when readily available. And I have two M1 Carbines. I think I have 150 rounds stashed away.
Otherwise try gun shows when things cool down.

Wow. I would laugh but this is more sad really. Someone is going to hurt themselves for being ignorant. Guess those anti gunners should pratice "common sense" gun control and take a gun safety course first before purchasing a gun.
I own 10 guns. Each one diffrent and serve a particular purpose. Including one that I use on the job. I teach and share gun safety skills and knowledge. Respect the gun before you fear your political opposition. It will be you who does more harm to yourself than any political nut.

Unless there are online gun safety courses they won't be learning nothing, and if they don't like guns most won't think they need any training - just like too many kids climbing into their car's driver seat for the very first time (and stomping on the gas in their panic when it starts to move!)
This is one of those times that I'll say that if you are a Democrat, you need to take gun safety training and education before you are even eligible to own a weapon of any kind.
I bought my parents a Heritage Arms .22LR six shooter for Christmas, so they can use the .22LR ammunition they bought back in 2012 (over 100 rounds of it, and it was difficult finding that much back then). Back then Dad wanted a AR7 to use with the .22LR, but then he had his stroke.
A week or two ago, mom heard a couple arguing in what sounded like their driveway. She grabbed the gun, but didn't load it "because she doesn't want a loaded gun in the house." I thought, so why TF did I even buy a gun then?

Because I ran out of time editing my comment:
Mom has always been extremely terrified and afraid of gun, but is still somehow a 2nd Amendment supporter. That's something that never has made sense to me.
When I was a kid, they bought some mace and hid it in the house where they knew I could find it. I found it, and sprayed it in my face and nose because I was curious. That was their test to see if they could keep a gun in the house (actually, it was mom's test). So, growing up, they would buy us water pistols, but then yell at us for pointing it at someone (mom's way of teaching us gun safety, I would just give her odd looks)
Dad wanted a shotgun when we moved in the country because he thought coyotes would always be harassing us, so they bought one in 1995. Because of mom, its never been used. Not even cleaned.

My wife and I refused to allow the kids to have any toy guns of any kind, not even realistic squirt guns. I didn't want them to associate toys with the real thing. Funky ass looking Nurf guns were one thing allowed.
Plus when the kids were 4-5 years old, I took them to a range and some watermelons and shot the watermelons with handguns, rifles and shotgun before the kids. Their eyes went bug eyed at the results. I pounded into them "This is why we do NOT treat guns as toys, not be used like toys!"
Years later I would allow them with me at the range behind me watching carefully and allowing them to use a .22 with me right there! Once they proved responsibility, I would allow them free use while at the range. I also taught them how to clean the gun when done!
My son when he was ten was used as target practice by a neighborhood bully with a paintball gun, I caught up with the kid, seized the paintball gun and smashed it. The kid ran home and got his dad over. I showed the kids dad the bruises and paint residue still on my son and the bullies father then beat the shit out of his kid before me for shooting another kid with the paintball gun. Even that kids dad realized what a dick move his son made. And was damn lucky I didn't call the cops on him.

I have three guns, a Tisas 1911A1 .45ACP, a ASI 12ga pump action shotgun, and a Remington 700 .243 bolt action rifle. Mom has asked me in the past "Why am I building up such an arsenal?". She's also expressed her concern that she thinks I'm going to go shoot people simply because I own guns.
I have gun range experience with an M16-A2, well, when I was in the Air Force from 2002-2005.
My mom is extremely paranoid and fearful of practically everything.
The only time we were allowed to use a gun for target practice was when we had one of those bb air pump guns (and we had to shoot it at some hay). That was ok, probably because the bb didn't go far and didn't make loud noises.
BTW, I have 100 rounds of .243, 100 rounds of FMJ .45ACP, and 25 rounds of 12ga 1oz slugs

.243 was the one round that sat in a large amount at Cabelahs on Sunday, along with .257 and .270. That along has me rethinking of obtaining a bolt action .243 at some later date.
My rule of thumb is 500 rounds per pistol caliber in reserve, anything more is 'usable' for ready needs. 200 rounds of rifle in reserve, 100 rounds of various shotgun loads, #6, #4, BB, 000 buck and two boxes of slugs (10 rounds) in reserve. I have a bug out bandoleer of 75 rounds of various sized loads draped off a door...just in case. Plus a box of mixed loads, mainly #8, #7.5 and #6 for ready needs like introducing lead poisoning to a Raccoon, woodchuck or rat.

O' the times! O' the morays(sic)
When I was shipped off to the dirt farm/share crop shack that My GREAT (both terms count here) grandparents still ran, my grampa took us kids to the corral and set some bird food on a post and had us wait.
Since I was the newest kid I got to go first.
He held the 20 gauge break action shot gun against my shoulder and helped me aim.
Very soon a blue jay "shit bird" (He really didn't like them...) set down to eat.
He said get ready and as I watched down the barrel there was a HUGE flash and a GIGANTIC "BOOOOM!!!" (I was 3-4)...and there were little blue feathers floating around...we were near point blank...
He turned me around to look at him.
While I rubbed my shoulder he said: "That's whut gyuns do. (We're Southrin.) And if you play whith anyuv'em I'll WHUP yer ass and then ye gamma will whup yer ass (I was more afraid of her...she'd already whupped me for saying a word GRAMPA told me to say!) Then yer Momma will whup yer ass..."
They put the fear into me!
Can't teach kids like that any more...(damn I'm old...)
Luckily when my mom married the step-yankee I got lucky cause he was with an armed security company and the weapons manager was an NRA instructor and I was to how to shoot at 7...still wan't allowed to get a bb gun till I was 12...where my youngest brother nearly shot out my middle brother's eye...he was only 4 and didn't quite under stand gun range commands.
If kids today still had the "officer friendly" program in kiddy-garten...AND the plot to make folks afraid of the cops and vice versa hadn't been enacted...
AND if helly-wood didn't SCREW up how guns work! then maybe the folks would be more informed...
WHY do people think you cock you weapon just before you shoot?!?!?!?

My mother, too, was terrified of firearms. She wouldn't touch one, much less actually fire one.
One day, while enjoying an outstanding afternoon in the National Park with family and friends, I was sitting next to her (taking a break from an hours-long shooting session), field stripping and inspecting a few of the firearms that had gotten some good usage, and I asked her about this phobia.
She talked, I listened, then I asked her, "If someone were attacking your children, would you be too scared of wielding a firearm to protect them?"
She literally sat-up straight, eyes blinking, and I could nearly hear the wheels inside her skull turning...
She learned basic marksmanship skills that very day, and I have to say with total satisfaction, by the end of it, not only did she ENJOY shooting, but could paint the black at 15 yards with three of the pistols, and the .22 Marlin rifle she helped me buy when I was 14 1/2 (needed a parent present before Kmart would sell to a Minor. Yes, I'm Olde. shush)
Watching people shoot for the first time? Teaching and training them to respect firearms?
Love it!

More like "Point in the general direction and fire" types, then be shocked how loud the gun is, or the kick shocks them into dropping it!
Like the manager said, likely more than half will be resold back. Or worse, and this has happened...Thrown away. Or by some who seriously hate them, turned over to the police and surrendered. Maybe...MAYBE 10-15% will seriously look at their investment and actually use it properly after some training and wind up LIKING them.

It's a tool. Usually a deterrent but, if shit hits the fans it's a tool to protect.
I've said it once. I'll fucking say it again. They need to set up training programs so people can train to A. dissemble and reassemble their weapon to clean and repair it.
B. KNOW how to use it. And C. Know when to use it!
I've a 9mm and my brother bought for me as a gift but, I've also a Judge. And I have that bastard loaded with 410 slug shell. The recoil on it is a nightmare
Still..I'm trained. I can take apart both weapons blindfolded and reassemble them. Uncle Sam taught me the correct methods for handling them. This? Tom, you gotta get outta there asap. You're gonna get shot by someone stupid at this rate

Glad there's people like you, that have a brain. And you've reproduced. We've got to many gods be damned morons out there procreating faster then rabbits on meth!
Still with the current crisis at hand. We can't even rely on the government to handle this. They're to busy bailing out the millionaire companies instead of figuring a means of ensuring the populace doesn't die

They're talking about giving us an "advance" on our "tax return"...
I'f you'd get $600 bucks back you'e get that...AGAINST your FUTURE tax returns...if you're riche enough to get $1200 back then you get that, again an advance on the future...
so some point in the future we WONT get a tax "return"...
I'm wondering about us 'disableds' who don't get ANYTHING like what we PAID IN!!! Or us in student loan default (The damned default of the bastard banks who fucked me...)
and since the fed is spilling $1.25 BILLION a day in "stimulus" is gonna cause the dollar to devalue and the inflation to go runaway...

Yeah I call it "gag-all" by the sheer amount of shit you get returned...
They keep changing the algorithm to deliberately cause confusion.
The normal search tactics no longer work.
So you're forced to dig through stuff and have to connect a few dots.
I haven't searched for the current crap yet (it changes by the minit...I did see what the big hold up was...each rep HAD to get his barrel of pork...) but the "advanced tax return" seems about as "logical" as it gets...and it matches the insanity that's what the gub-ment would likely do...
I got the info from "approved" sources...wsj nyt forbes etc...

Hard to say, if stupidly left readily available and easy to find, say a burglar finds it, safe bet.
Though here in the states they include a mandatory Youth Firearms Responsibility act pamphlet with each purchase that goes in great detail about the penalties of a firearm found by a child, used by a child, or accidentally discharged by a child, causing injury or death. They seriously pound that in here!

The sad thing is that some will misuse their firearm because they didn't get some training, and then double down on the whole "guns cause evil" thing that's all too common among the gun control crowd, like it was Terry Pratchet's Gonne.
(This is also why I cringe at videos of assholes giving gun newbies a powerful weapon with the idea of setting them up to embarrass or outright hurt themselves, and would support the shit out of a successful DoIP [Dopeslap over IP] implementation.)

*amused* Sounds like a month after this blows over, there may be some good deals around. :)
Personally, I'm stuck. I'm in the middle of a move from VA to Dallas, TX. Started my new job at the start of March... so in a hotel. Only firearm is my Glock 19 (Polymer80) as I decided to carry light. Everything else is in storage back in VA and is not accessible. Ammo is about impossible to find, but I did pack my Lee Loader for 9mm... so while everyone else is scrambling to find ammo, I actually have a couple mags already and I managed to score a bottle of appropriate powder, some 300 appropriate projectiles, and have some brass and primers inbound. Amazing how a simple reloading kit setup can help avoid crunches like this. :)
Plus side... I decided to bite the proverbial bullet and ordered a MechTech Systems upper, effectively letting me swap out my slide for the upper and convert my Glock frame into a Pistol Caliber Carbine. I think I'll be OK for the next month or two till I can get my stuff delivered here.

The writing was on the wall and it was time to find greener pastures for a bit politically speaking. We'll see if that holds true after the next election or two. I strongly suspect the blues are going to continue to make a mess of things and get themselves removed from office. I may return in a couple years - my folk and siblings still live there.
Still, if you're ever down near Dallas, give a hollar. :) I'll set you loose on my M2 Carbine.

I am 100% behind every American's 'Right to bear arms'.
USMC Veteran, and I've been shooting since I was 14 1/2 (still have that Marlin .22 rifle I bought with my own money and a brick of rounds for $85.00!).
The one issue I do acknowledge and agree with the 'Anti's'?: Lack of training for people wielding firearms (or really, weapons of any kind).
Where the 2nd is a 'Right', and (should be) something we all enjoy? Firearms are literally lethal tools, and in the hands of the ignorant, simply not a wise idea.
I do not suggest the Govt. being/instill a 'Firearms Training' business. Nothing our Govt. does ever runs well/right, and this would be no exception.
Private Industries/Groups, (like the late, great, much-lamented NRA USED to do), like 'Gun Owners of America'? This would be an OUTSTANDING chance to bring firearm owners together, train and educate those interested in owning them!
As-for the run on firearms and ammunition? Holy. Shit!
I was JUST about to make a $1,000.00 purchase for 1,000 rounds in .223, 500 of another, and a brick or two of .22LR. THAT supplier jacked-up the price for ONE BOX of .222 (5oo count), which WAS $250.00, to OVER $800.00, in the span of ONE DAY!
G-damned money-grubbing scalpers!
Needless to say, I will never spend another .01 at that Supplier. They pulled this shit before, after the 'Sandy Hook' incident, and should be 'Closed for Business' for trying to screw over their customers.
Stay well folks! Stay sane! Stay SAFE!!!

Oh I supported the NRA safety coarse that was used to teach safety. My son too the NRA safety coarse when he was 12. I think that it still has a viable means of proper safety education.
Sadly I also know a few pro-2A types that shouldn't own a firearm, cause they are utter choads. I have serious tinnitus thanks to one fur who was just TOO DAMN Eager to fire a newly obtained SMLE Enfield and discharged the rifle with the muzzle less than a foot from my head before I had time to put in hearing protection (everybody else was just getting ear protection in, I was digging in my range bag for my ear plugs when it happened.
Yeah, I watched likely ammo scalpers literally sweeping ammo off the shelf into shopping carts by the armful. Just like in 2013 with the serious .22 ammo shortage. When a brick of .22 that was $10-$12 shot up to $75 and higher. And Youtube has numerous videos from back then when they showed scalpers and hoarders raiding Walmart and buying up all the ammo. Later showing off their daily hauls in a massive room filled with ammo. Bragging how they will get more the next day.

I trained with recruits (and, even-more-sadly, Active Duty/Reservists), whom I PRAYED I would never, ever, actually have to go to war alongside...
Training matters. Personal attitude matter more.
The hearing protection problems? Oh, shit...
Back when I frequented public ranges (indoor OR outdoor), personal hearing protection was MANDATORY. The Range Officer would make it clear that before anyone approached the bench (for the next round), ALL hearing protection had to be in place.
One thing that always gave me chuckles (from BOTH sides of this situation)?...
Folks firing magnum/hyper-caliber firearms...
I've literally put my pistols down, and waited till the dude next to me, firing the .50AE, 454Casull, or similar, was done... On the long range, I've done the same for folks enjoying their Barret .50 (or larger)...
Just standing-back, watching and enjoying folks wielding such firepower?
Worth it!
P.S.
Isn't it such a fucked-up situation, that our Govt. restricts/Taxes, the very equipment we WANT, to preserve our hearing? (what most folks call 'Silencers'. Always another chuckle topic.)

Dude, why are you even bothering to help these idiots? And in Madison, the city of the perpetually offended?
Hope you haven't forgotten these anti-gun idiots are the same a-holes that would rather see you dead on the side of the road so they can spit at your corpse and laugh just because you are not part of their political hive-mind.
p.s. 9mm CZ's rule. :)

Once at my club's Sight-In Days, we had a hunter on the line who had 7mm Mauser ammo mixed with 8mm Mauser. Somehow the 7s made it down the barrel of the k98 without touching any lands or grooves. Some noob with .300 Blackout in a .223 Rem anything would be in for a less pleasant experience however.
Unless you get a sympathetic manager at the store, you are generally stuck with your mistake unless you know somebody with that needed caliber.
What woke me up at Cabelahs, even before the panic, was seeing .410, .28, .20, .12 and .10 gauge shells...NO .16 gauge shells whatsoever! Has 16 lost all favor? And yet 28 gauge is making a comeback?
Certain calibers I just wonder at, like .45GAP...Gander Mountain still has a Glock 37 for sale the past year and they've dropped the price to $295 and still no takers. And when was the last time you've seen .45GAP available?

Per the local news, requests for registration/back-ground checks in CO is up over 277%, and like you found, ammo is selling out faster than the weapons.
Some of the dealers were saying that they were getting plenty tired of a lot of the new buyers complaining about not being able to order their new "toy" over the internet and have it delivered straight to their home, like all the news said they could. Instead, they had to come in and risk "exposure". Or why THEY had to wait after the order, when that "cooling off period" was for criminals and murderers who wanted to run out and commit their crimes, not for them!
They were also getting a lot of grief about the time/price for the background checks, and were being asked when the next gun show was, so they could save the money and just pick up something there on the spot.
A lot of the dealers were getting a bit salty about it all.
Guess all those "facts" that the media was putting out, about how anyone could get a gun over the internet, and the "gun show loophole", weren't quite so factual after all, eh?

Thats what I just broke out laughing at a couple people bitching at Cabelahs scanning their phones on Amazon. Upset they can't order ammo off Amazon nor buy a gun off Amazon. "But you can buy guns off the internet, why doesn't Amazon have them?" Then one guy standing aside the other two scanning their phones said "Right here! Amazon sells handguns! I just bought one!" And the other two got all excited and did the same!
They bought realistic BB guns!

A few years ago, my friend Bill and I were discussing our recent purchases. I told him I had picked up my new Kimber 10mm 1911, a special order (and wait!) back then. The guy in the next seat turned around and called bullshit. "There's no such thing as a ten millimeter gun. You're just one-upping the nine millimeter."
"The 10mm Auto was developed in the mid-1980s for a pistol called the Bren Ten. The FBI used the round for a few years, but some smaller cadets couldn't master it, so they had it reduced to a new caliber called a .40."
"Bullshit. No such thing." He went back to reading his sports page.
"Anyway," I told Bill, "I also made a down payment on a Kimber .38 Super. Same deal, have to wait--"
"Now I know you're lying. It's a thirty-eight Special, not a Super. There's no such thing."
Bill tapped the guy on the shoulder. "Excuse me, are you a gun expert?"
"Hell, no, I hate the f___ing things."
"Well, he is. Now shut your mouth because it's clear you have no idea what you're talking about."
Me, I just want to fix the thing that goes up on my AR-14.

People are panic-buying...guns...
WTF?!
Seriously, I do agree, do you research before buying a weapon for the first time, and after buying said weapon, make sure you buy the CORRECT AMMO. A 12 gauge shotgun can't hold 10 gauge shells. A 9mm gun can't hand .22 or Springfield .30-06. Hell, there's a difference between a Springfield .30-06 and .30-30.
I only own one gun, and that's a Ruger M77 (not Mk2, not Hawkeye, not 77/17, 77/22, 77/357 or 77/44) chambered in Springfield .30-06. I use 165 grain with that weapon, because it feels balanced. And yes, the bolt has been replaced. I use it for hunting and range shooting in Eastern Oregon. And yes, I'm a liberal with a gun, who believes in the second ammendment and COMMON SENSE gun laws (i.e. Background checks and EDUCATION).

Understandable. My Ruger M77 was actually given to me from a family friend who passed away. Their husband gave it to me for hunting. It has a 3-9x scope on the top. Not sure how centered it is, but sometime I will find a workshop (when the COVID-19 crisis is over) and get it centered. Glad my state has those kind of workshops for rifles.
They are great rifles, the advantage of the Mk 2 is the stock isn't a fancy walnut like the Mk 1, I was overly paranoid damaging the stock. And the Glock 20 was more practical for me for deep woods shit I might encounter. I call it my Sasquatch Gun, cause that 10MM is a knock down round.
Ted Nugent is a firm believer in the 10mm. Last year he used his Glock to put down an enraged gemsbok on his Texas ranch, as reported on Gun Talk.

I swung by Walmart today while doing laundry, sure enough the .22 ammo I saw yesterday was gone. The clerk said one guy came in and bought ALL the .22 ammo they had. There was 12 boxes of 550 round Federal, 6 boxes of 333 round Winchester, 6 boxes of 225 Round Winchester and a dozen boxes of 100 round Winchester in plastic box...all grabbed by one guy!
"Will this fit my gun?" as they looked at shotgun shells. I asked "What kind of gun did you buy?"
They looked at each other and replied "Uh, its a handgun , a 9 speed I think."
I force a smile "What kind of 9 speed? A Schwinn? Rally? Huffy? Or maybe a Trek?"
Okay, Jim, thank you. This made me laugh out loud for the first time in weeks. As little as I know about guns, even I'M not THAT dim about them. I needed that.

Personally, I'd just get a Glock chambered in .45 ACP, then purchase as much ammo for it as I can.
Is this website a good place to buy Ammo, Jim?

It's almost as if we need an organization purely dedicated to the education and safe handling of firearms. *coughNRAcough* <.< >.>
Well, if nothing else, this may mean that the market will be flooded with cheap used guns after all this blows over and the people realize that they didn't need that hand cannon after all. Plus an unused gun is still much easier to sell than unused toilet paper.

Yeah.... I help run an outdoor range and we have a close partnership with Center Mass Ammo. Aside from us being the only open range in at least a 100 mile radius, I can confidently say that the number of new users are absolutely insane. Our new customer based has exploded and we are constantly cycling Beginner Gun Safety classes to the public daily. We've taken on 5 new instructors in the last 2 weeks, 4 of which are urban opportunity and education instructors only. I'm actually kinda happy to see and educate the panicking sheep. Maybe teach them that the bad pewpew isn't so bad.
We can not keep handgun and rifle(mainly 223 and 556 of course) ammunition on our shelves. CMA is drowning in bulk orders on a daily basis out side of our clientele demand. Honestly, pray you don't carry a 9mm because you will have a hell of a time finding any. All ammo production pricing has been increased by 23% from the new hike up on components and the struggle on shipping fast enough.
I made the mistake on buying myself a new ccw for my bday that happened to land in the heat of this hysteria. It was hell trying to order from Crow because their stock fluctuated so drastically constantly. But after a week and half I finally got my walther pps M2. Unfortunately, it's a 9mm so I only have 500 target rounds (115g fmj) to practice with it.

I'm lucky I got my Taurus g2c before Dec last year though it has been a pain trying to find 9mm to practice once a month. Damn pawn shops were trying to sell a box of 100 rounds for $150. Luckily I found ammo.com and bought 900 rounds of TulAmmo for around $300 and got it in a week.
Thing was in a large Spam can with no tools or a tab to pull and I had to spend half an hour with a screwdriver and mallet chisseling away at enough to pull my boxes out.
Went to the range to shoot them, and they won't let me because they are steel cased. Getting the gun was easy. Stuff for the gun is a pain in the ass.

I love my G2C, A few years ago I was looking for a "Travel Pistol" to carry in my car. Something for under $300 in case its stolen or confiscated. Was actually looking at (God Forgive me) the Hi Points as a "It just needs to go bang when I need it!" and they were new for $189 at Cabelahs. I HATE the Hi Points, its a mailbox on a stick and top heavy, and the magazines are crappy. I don't care they have a lifetime warranty.
I was blanching as a gag reflex thinking on those POS' in my possession, then I saw the new Taurus G2C on sale for $198 at Cabelahs. It felt better, points better, far better sighting and superior magazine compared to the junky Hi Points magazine. Plus it holds 12 compared to 8. And for $10 more!!
I took it to the range with
mad5s, and he too test drove mine. And on the way back he requested a stop at Cabelahs and he too bought one. I've encouraged a few others of my associates to join the 'G2C Club' and 'sold' at least another dozen at various gun shops just pointing out the obvious with the pistol. For the money it can't be beat, especially for the quality. It doesn't have that old Taurus problematic pistols of a few years ago. Taurus has seriously upped their game in quality.
Though I'm not crazy about the G2 slim single stack version.
But my G2C is my main travel pistol, especially out of state.

I originally wanted a Beretta M9 since that was what I was used to when I was in the military but then I remembered how it was too big for me to wield comfortably. Not to mention they were out of my price range. Luckily the owner pointed me to the G2C and I got one with two mags for a total of $270. They talked me into using the range for free and I popped a hundred rounds down range and loved it. Small enough for me and I don't have to worry about it flying out my hands and hitting me in the face. Bought some home defense rounds to take with me too.
I only have a few complaints, not for the gun mind you. $40 for an extra mag and it took forever for me to find a holster that'll fit it. I found this nice "cell phone case" that attaches to my belt and has a magnetic clasp on it. Looking at me it looks like I have a tiny box on my side. Nice snug fit but I wished it wasn't $65.
It's like buying a Switch. You'll spend more money on the add ons than on the main buy. I'm thinking of buying a flashlight attachment for use in the house. I don't trust my single handed grip while holding a maglight. I should practice with one hand next time I'm at the range.
I'm thinking of upgrading in the future. Perhaps a shotgun or some type of rifle.

For home defense, I recommend a Mossburg 590 Shockwave https://www.mossberg.com/category/s.....590-shockwave/
Or a Mossberg Maverick 88, or H&R Pardner Pump (Got the HR myself , its a solid shotgun!)

I picked up an Outbags holster off Amazon that works great!!

Plus magazines can be found for $30 if you look online. I've seen them as cheap as $27 at gunshows.

The Ruger PC-9 should fit the bill. My rule of thumb for any semi auto I own is 3 back up magazines to the one in the gun. Heres me holding the PC-9 https://www.furaffinity.net/view/32157431/
I work there... I have nicely told customers... Do your home work before buying and please take a safety class... this still happens... every day, all gun sales are final, all ammo sales are final. I know this is an old post, but you can't make this stuff up, I play a counting game with "new to guns" people, I count how many times they flag me or others with the gun, my high score was 147, i lost count after someone screamed at the woman for talking with her hands.
The big fellow on the lower-left could be a bayonet for a sidearm like that. I mean, it kind of defeats the purpose of a great mighty powder-charge jacketed beast of a cartridge-bullet like that, but if you threw it really, really hard it might improve the penetration without igniting the primer and firing the bullet from therein.
Damn, now I'm thinking about
rjbartrop's Zaibatsu Tears full-body prosthetic saiyubogu cyborgs Pi and Dolf, and their inert projectile tossing with super-speed and cyber-strength. And that's getting me thinking about my writing-in-progress Cyberpunk narrative story Medium and at least one of the main characters therein. Inspiration with representation is always fun!

"Kevin Jepson is a gentleman who has been very active in Calgary SF fandom,
and every year at Con-Version he runs an excellent get-together called Ye Olde
Nazgul Tavern. One of his specialties is a potent beverage he calls "Zaibatsu Tears".
Don't ask me what's in it, only Kevin knows, and he's not telling. The name perfectly
suited the tone of the story, so I asked his permission to use it, and then his wife,
who it turns out originally came up with the name.
And the rest, as they say, is history."
