In which Shine realizes People...can Look at Him. Whoa.
Yanno what's dumb? I draw his pose under that cloak EVERY TIME. I even color and shade it, too, just in case. Eez dumb. Oh whale. Maybe someday, Shine will stop wearing the cloak! I can only dream...
Sorry, this is yet another page where I'm not sure what to say without wandering into possible spoiler territory. Um, I realized when I realized I accidentally drew Rae's hair in a low ponytail last page that she actually has the same hairstyle as the old avatar character I had whose personality she ended up inheriting, and that I'm just drawing the bangs differently...and it's a high ponytail instead of a low one. Like, she's even got the same hair color, but those ear danglies? THOSE EAR DANGLIES. Those are like, Tsuki trademark, and I didn't even realize it until muscle memory was like, "Yeah, ponytail goes down here, done." And I looked back at the old Tsuki's Shorts pages and just...yup. No wonder my arm remembered low ponytail. I drew it enough, over those fifty pages and other art besides! Heck! I'm just gonna lean into it now.
Holy balls, I should draw a baby highschooler Rae from her goth days and give her the Tsuki eye...marking...things. That I actually wore as a little gothling back in the day! Aw, man, that'd be adorable.

Yes and no! I’m not sure when this will be explained in-comic, but Shine’s “speech” is effectively a telepathic projection, that’s why his voice bubbles are funky. He’ll mention that in a later scene in this issue, but I’m not sure if or when the mechanics might get some on-panel time, since, hey, gotta make room for plot!
... Why do I get the feeling his magic was subconsciously making him look like a normal horse/pegasus, rather than an alicorn, and this is the first time they're seeing him for what he really is? ... and now I realize these are two separate people who aren' tin fact his vet and significant other. *facepalms* Real smooth, Omni. Reeeeaaaal smooth.
It's all good! I've got two sets of lesbians with similar builds interacting with Shine at different times in the comic, I was kinda expecting some confusion! I'm throwing kinda a loooot of characters at people for a first chapter, because I can't hold back on setting up some storylines, so yeah!
^_^ But yeah, no "normal" talking horses in this universe (not yet, anyway! Maybe once the New Normal settles in, but that takes Time! (yes, I namedropped my own comic))! Shine's a weirdo who went from looking like a spoopy grim reaper to an alicorn colt after he laughed at a dumb joke! See, simple! (it's not, it's stupid, but I liked the ideas too much to not make them!)

It actually fits, given his realtive young age, which would imply any magic he has is also young and not yet to its full capabilities. Just as his body needs to grow, so, too will his magic as he learns to channel and harness it. So, this does fit his character development pretty well, IMO.
