The Mk units are bio-mechanical weapons discovered 7000 years ago in a planetary-mine near Dobonedore's domain, and every faction in the galaxy uses them for various purpouses.
The 7th VMk-a unit manufactured by the velocian government was the only survivor of its batch.
Its first and only pilot in the six years it was operational was Krein, the only volunteer to risk testing it.
The Vmk-a series is made with the common "core" genome distributed in the galactic community mixed with the velocian genome for greater blood compatibility with its pilots (predictably all velocians)
The colors of this unit were going to be different, but Krein, its pilot, decided to leave the original primer colors of the armor.
Krein refers to the unit as "she", even though the Vmk-a units have no gender.
