Pay for adoptables have been showing up a lot lately, mostly due to the fact adoptables are very popular and at $1-5, they're quite affordable and give the artist some compensation for the time it takes to create these.
For example, it took at least an hour to do the sketches and lineart for each species, and takes a minimum of half an hour to design each, if not an hour - if anything the price is extremely low.
