
Also with the three crested birds, the resident Gila woodpecker, one of the two local woodpeckers. (The other is the Northern Flicker.) The red spot on top of his head marks him as a male. Females are the same other than not having that. Flickers are also similar, though the male has a red stripe under the eye instead of on top of his head.
