I like this because it reminds me of some of the RC planes they used to fly in the Model Club I was in during the late 1980s. There were gliders like the "Pretty Lady" that needed to be one color on one side so the "Pilot" on the ground could tell which way the aircraft was flying.
The Guppy used an 18 horsepower Cushman motor, but Hobie said you could use up to a 36 horsepower converted Bug motor. Today there are any number of v-twins that could be converted to power it.
I'm taking the Guppy and making changes so it will carry two people and some baggage, so it's going to need more horsepower the plan is Bug motor with a reduction drive so I can turn a fair sized propeller.
If I was going to build a straight Guppy I think I'd use a 1600 cc Bug motor just because. I would also need to widen the cabin for shoulder room... it's a snug cockpit.
