Hello. I'm working on a fullsuit. It's a gift for a friend who's helped me quite a bit. It's a meshed Cheshire Cat. I'm taking the three interpretations of CC over the years and turning them into one suit. I'm crocheting the suit. I'm using the faux-real tail tutorial to do the whole suit: crochet a shirt, pants, gloves, socks, tail, and then latch-hook the yarn in and brush it out. Even the head is going to be covered in crochet fur.
But I ran into a problem. I've been combing out this tail for about a week now. This is how far I've gotten.
I haven't been working non-stop, I won't lie. But I have a problem. Here's a tip for anyone thinking of using this method:
Latch-hook two rows, AND COMB IT OUT QUICK! Don't yarn the whole thing before combing it out. You run into my problem. The gloves that are turning into paws are crocheted, then two rows at a time are yarned, combed, and then yarned and combed again. I'm almost done with them, just figuring out claws (then I'll have pictures.)
But it still leaves me with a problem. This tail. It's a nice tail, there's a lot of nice yarn on it, and it's very swishy. But it's killing my combs. The paws worked nicely, but I'm having issues with the tail. I started with the de-shedding brush like the original tutorial said to. My problem is that it's ripping the yarn out. No, not like "you're going to lose some fibers in combing" ripping out. It's literally pulling out the entire yarn segment. I had to re-yarn the whole blue tip, I had two yarn strips left after the comb hit it.
So I went to a smaller comb, a flea comb. It worked, that's how the tail tip was done. But it's taking forever. And it's bent a few of the steel teeth and even pulled one out. It won't survive the whole tail.
Anyone have another suggestion of what kind of comb to use? It's a one-time use for me, as I know better now than to yarn the whole thing in one go. But yeah. This is what I've used:

Any comb ideas?

I think they're referring to a slicker brush; http://images.search.yahoo.com/sear.....t&y=Search
As a yarn tail maker myself, don't use either of those combs. XD It will take WAY too long. Use this instead, it works WONDERS.

It does not have the balls on the end of the little metal teeth, so it doesn't ruin the yarn, and also it will take the yarn out much smoother.
And you don't have to untwist anything. XP I bought this kind of brush, and my tails go buy at least 33% faster. : 3
Good luck!
