Do you think Capcom will ever bridge the gap between the Classic and X series? Mega Man 10 would have made the most sense, but other than giving a possible precursor to the Maverick Virus, there's no real connection yet.
Sorry, but your idea of an older Wily made me start wondering about that. I don't play the MMX games, but I have read plot summaries online. While having X and Zero appear in some form in the Classic games might mean the end of that series, I think it needs to happen at some point. But at the same time, the amount of story to be told would need to have the 8-bit formula abandoned, in my opinion. The amount of exposition needed would be far too much for the 8-bit cut scene format in MM9 and MM10.

I've wanted to see a bridge between MegaMan and X since X4 came out, and revealed the story of Wily creating Zero, (and in X3 when Sigma spills that Zero was the last of "the doctor's" creations). I really wish Capcom would stop pussy-footing around about this subject. It'd be reeeeeeeeeally cool to etiher make a dark MM11 (not too dark for all the little chillums out there, or MMX-0 or something to that extent that fills in the details of the original bots destruction, the arrival of the Wily/Zero virus (which would eventually become the Maverick Virus) And finish the series. I propose it should be in 16-bit Super Nintendo graphics with anime cutscenes. (Maybe even a full episode? hint hint wink wink Mav. HunterX?) :D Dammit Capcom, get on the trolley!
if they did make a link from mega man to MMX they would do it in a X game. Mega Man games are suppose to be sort of light and fun, and X is suppose to be the more serious mature story. in the art book for MMX they talk about how Zero was almost the main character but they liked the design for X so they made Zero support character
The completion of the story in the X series would make sense. And really, there's already been 3 games in the X series where they give "hints" to what happened, which may have served as Capcom's "means to an end" for the original series connection... But still, I'm sure many MM fans will agree that a more in depth connecting storyline between Original and X is what the MegaMan series needs most. Whether it takes place in an original, or X series game.
