Physical Appearance: Jar is a skinny hedgehog with primarily white fur, but his spines are an astounding combination of magenta, orange, and yellow. He has thin, laid-back-looking eyes, a smug-as-hell grin, and his inner-ear fur and paw pads are black. He also has a single stud ear piercing in each ear.
Clothing: Jar usually wears a set of retro, semi-circle black sunglasses perched on his snout, along with a simple, baggy black shirt with a set of three white silhouettes in the middle and baggy black sweatpants. He doesn’t usually wear shoes.
Personality: Jar, at least on the surface, is the epitome of cool. I mean cool, as in a combination of The Fonz and what people in the 90s thought was the raddest thing on the planet. He’s great at skateboarding, he always knows the right thing to say, he volunteers at every local business and hits up the soda shop for kicks, he always wears sunglasses, and there’s no opportunity to help people that he won’t take. He’s beloved by pretty much everyone in his community, and even the homeless druggies on the street wave and smile at him. However...this is all a facade. Jar is miserable. He’s a chronic insomniac (hence the thin eyes and why he wears sunglasses so much), he’s an alcoholic, he smokes, and he fears death more than anything else in the world. His positivity underlies a deep existential dread and nihilism, which he stuffs down into himself in order to keep up the positive attitude. Despite how miserable he is, though, he nonetheless does enjoy helping people and generally being a good person, and as much as he hates to admit it, he wishes he could be that genuinely happy.
Backstory: Jar moved out of his uncle’s home at age 23, the place where he was relocated to after CPS was called on his parents’ house, and proceeded to exit his city and move to a new town that wasn’t exactly glamorous...but anything was better than staying in his hometown, and he at least wasn’t unhappy. He got along by working various part-time jobs like candy shop clerk, parade float driver, and empty lot cleaner, until he met a girl named Maria who he fell in love with. They were happy at first, but as Maria’s anarchic beliefs grew more and more pronounced, she moved away in order to pursue activism and make a change in society. Jar subsequently fell deep into depression, especially after he heard about the suicide of a close friend he had in his hometown...but he eventually managed to choke down his true feelings and personality, constructing a more agreeable “cool guy” personality through which he was able to get a lot more done and become much more likable (in his eyes). He still works various part-time jobs in addition to helping out whoever he comes across and being generally “cool”. He does still know how to skateboard really well, though.
