Taking place few years after the defeat of the rogue pack, Sam Schmidt is settling into his new life as a werewolf and enjoys taking care of the younger kids at the wolf colony. Here he is giving Connor a piggy-back ride.

At 6-yrs-old, Sam had gotten roped into the chaos following the public reveal of the dog soldier program when, the now fugitive, Colonel Riksan had sent Subject 06 to kidnap SSGT Schmidt's son in retaliation for SSGT Schmidt leaking documents on the program and freeing the dog soldiers. SSGT Schmidt's wife was killed in the attack on their house and Sam was taken away where he was infected, turned into a werewolf, and fitted with a control collar. When Schmidt and the dog soldiers finally found Sam, Colonel Riksan activated the collar and made Sam attack his dad, badly wounding and nearly killing him before the others knocked Sam out.
