For those that know me well, it's no surprise that I bleed cougar blood. I think I always will. That being said, it's also well known that few animals inspire such awesome wonder for me as leopards.
Jumanji was the first leopard that I worked seriously with. He had a dignity and poise that's not so different than Nenesis. This last 30-Dec was his one year anniversary of the completion of his Earthy Journey. I think this picture does him just a little justice.
I have tried diligently to capture the persona of Jumanji in some of my writing. The character "Daikal Amira" that can be found in several different genres if my writing is my vision of him in a sentient, anthropomorphic form. Of course, like with any other being in the universe, trying to capture them completely in any form, written, visual, or otherwise, is perhaps more of a study in futility; to that end, all we can do as "artists" is capture the essence as best we can, and hope that it all comes across and does the original subject honor and justice.
So, this is Jumanji, taking a quiet moment to just relax and perhaps reflect on whatever things a magnificent leopard ponders in such moments. :)
This picture was taken 13-May-03. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens. The original was taken at full frame of 3072x2048x24b, ISO eqv 400, 1/125 shutter, f/4. This image was shrunken down for space conservation.
Disclaimer: I hate to have to put this on here, but the pic is copyright me. Please do not distribute, copy, alter, etc, without my permission. Having said all that, feel free to download and use it for your own inspiration.

Well, in truth, I don't know. It would be my fondest wish to know or even fathom what any of these animals might be thinking. What thoughts they must have, even in their captive lives!
Jumanji was just lying in the grass that day, more just being lazy than anything else, but he looked so serene that I had to try and capture the moment.
Jumer was always one that spoke his mind, plainly, bluntly, chopped at both ends, no differently than any other leopard I've ever met. Whether a short grunt or half-snarl, a snort of digust or grumble-growl, he had an almost universal language that even a stupid human like myself could understand. :)
I suppose if he /was/ sad, it was that he was captive, and I truly wish - perhaps like he did - that no animal of this kind should ever be in a cage. They were meant to be wild and free. I take hope that now, Jumanji is free at last, never to be held captive, whose domain is the entire universe!

Not at all, M'Lady. But I have a condition (insert evil grin here): that I get to see them. :)
I've been meaning to get a bunch onto a DVD for you, and it's been kinda loonie here (another, downward turn with the facility and animals). But I'll definitely get it put together for you. On the other paw, if there anything that you'd like, that's currently in the gallery, let me know and I can send the "original" to you via email.
