Dr. Emil Armanis was a leading mind in bio-genetics. Since he was a child he always found himself envious of the physiology of other species, especially arachnids and incest. He questioned what it would be if a mammal had the ability to breath like a fish, or fly like a bird. If a bird's flimsy bone structure could be strengthened with an exoskeleton akin to an insect. Through his life he studied into this theory, eventually having the funding from mysterious benefactors.

Emil began injecting himself with with synthesized DNA of a spider until overtime the changes began to take shape. His feathers fell from his arms and chest. His body felt more "solid". His visual acuity seemed o increase. However the changes became more extreme, causing a pair arachnid arms to grow from his chest, multiple eyes growing from his head, a pincer around his now horrific beak, and the ability to fire webbing from his hands and mouth.

Where some would have seen failure, Dr. Armanis, in his now warped state-of-mind likely caused by his mutation, considered this a new step in the evolution of all species. His outward appearance made him appear a monster but he thought all others fools for not seeing the "beauty" of his work but he would make them see even if forced to. Now being dubbed "Doctor Arachnis" by the papers Emil captured people, some for experiments and others for potential "food"; his more predatory nature becoming extreme. It is only thanks to the efforts of Saturn City's heroes that he has not accomplished his horrific intentions.
