Look close and you can spot a modern component I used because the original was beyond salvage.

The jumper wire on the vertical board on the right.

Yes. Insulation had turned to powder over the years on the original. The rest of the wiring was ok, but that particular wire runs next to the dropper resistor - which dissipates a great deal of waste heat.

One rectifier, three amplifiers, and a weird one. It's an all-in-one AM radio receiver: Local oscillator, mixer and demodulator in one package. Just add tuning components and output amplifier parts, and you have a radio.

I think the tall one is the power amp for driving the speaker.

I don't know much about radios but a lot of guitar amps I work with use tube

Rimlock valves! There was a radio that came into the TV shop I worked at that used them.
I cannot remember what brand it was.
This one is in great condition!

Not perfect. I re-capped it, but the band select rotary was ruined - the material had weakened with age, I think, fell apart completely during disassembly. The knob itsself I broke while trying to force it off, as the screw to release it had corroded absolutely solid and would not come out. I fixed them both, but my 3D-printed replacement knob is not a cosmetic match for the original.

I think you did an excellent job at restoring it! That is sad the band select switch fell apart. It happens even with radios made here in the States.
I don't think the manufacturers had in mind us collectors restoring these beauties 60 years later.
