While I was out in the woods and making charcoal, I went ahead and made a handle for my rusty shovel head that was given to me by a neighbor.
The handle is made from 3 parts. The shaft, the T shape and the wedge.
The shaft is made from a section of maple sapling that I left the bark on and went ahead and stripped off bands for a decorative look to it.
The handle is made from a section of 3 in diameter sassafras log that I carved shape into. It was not split in half, that handle is literally the whole log piece. Pith and all. I'll keep that part heavily oiled for a while.
