"The Watch". Is that anything like a member of Internal Affairs? I don't know why the two detectives are worried about her. She looks kind of mousey to me.

There's no two ways about it, I'll have to do a brief exposition page on the Police structure in my comic.

To answer your question though, Demons in the Night is a sorta fantasy police drama. The Constabulary is made up mostly of free-furs whose badges give them the power to arrest members of the nobility. The administration staff, like Millicent and Carlotta are also free-furs, but are civilians.

The Watch make up for manpower, but they are entirely made up of serfs, and unless directed by a ranking constabulary member, they do not have the power of arrest. This is worrisome because, serfs are controlled by their masters (the nobility), so it is quite easy for the goings on at a police station to be gleaned by the nobility.

As an aside, police ranks greater than Inspector are made up of the nobility.

Interesting. It does seem to pose a bit of a conundrum. I'm impressed at how well thought out this comic seems to be. I just found it and I've gone back and started reading it from the beginning. It looks interesting so far.
