The giant heteroconch ammonite costume, pretty much finished - I may repaint the hood if I get time though.
It certainly gets some gratifying responces. Purrdence and my housemates insist I hang it where they can't see it *staring* at them. I, like a bastard, hang it where they can blunder into it in the middle of the night.
It caused an assortment of conniptions at work too, when I took it in to show off. Ranging from "You're a lunatic" to "Oh, wow! That's awesome! That's so cool... umm. umm, can you stop it looking at me like that? It's starting to creep me out"

I haven't gotten such a good laugh (and feelings of envy) out of cosplay for a long time...this is so damn good!
Last weekend I was whacking away at an ammonite of about this size in the Goodland limestone on U.S. 377 south of Benbrook, Texas. If the preservation quality was any better, I'd'a still been out there banging away at the hard calcium carbonate.
The ecology of that level of the local strata (clay-rich limy sea) is full of ammonites the size of car wheels.
Although it's whimsical in one sense, I love how your ammonite cosplay brings the old continental seas to life.
Can't wait to brag on you to the geology dep't at U. Texas at Arlington.
Gonna do an orthocone sometime?

with their snazzy zigzag colour scheme? You bet - but I suspect I'll have enough problems maneuvering in this. That said, Brain Choo came to one Swancon as a giant sea scorpion he had to row along the floor ( and people would talk to to the costume not knowing Brian had climbed out earlier for a drink ) and another year he came as an entire deep-sea rift community .
The size of Car wheels, you say? I'm jealous
