Many adventurers dream about having a statue erected to honor their brave deeds, but i doubt this poor lad had this in mind...
A rather quick sketch i've done today at the university. So here we have a goat swordsman-adventurer, who unfortunately (for him) is slowly turning into stone. What is the cause of this transformation? I don't know. Maybe he accidentally read a cursed petrification scroll? Or maybe he tried to play "Who will blink first?" with a medusa or a basilisk? Or maybe he just challenged the wrong wizard, who just had a "flesh to stone" spell memorized? Who knows. You can always ask our unlucky hero, but better be quick, because i have a feeling he'll be a bit less talkative in a moment or two.
This drawing was (mostly) inspired by some hours of playing Baldur's Gate and i wanted to try my skills drawing a stone texture with a pencil. I have a hard time saying how i feel about the effect. The arm and head look pretty good, but the vest looks a bit... worse. Still i'm happy how it came out, especially with his goatish appearance (first furry goat drawing :3 ). Also i think that placing the petrification "line" just bellow the belt wasn't a good idea. It's a bit hard to spot it. Yet, it's still a good sketch :).
Hope You like it!

i think ur being to had on urself with the vest... I mean if the effect is a spell it would make sense for the cloths to become stone as well... and since the vest is already textures it would make sense the cracking stone effects ur drawing to simulate the changing into stone wouldn't show up well. If u look at actually cracked stone sculptures around the clothing details crack are kind of hard to notice unless u really are looking for flaws depending on how detailed the clothing is done into the stone.
Thank You.
At first the cracks over the petrified body parts seemed a bit creepy to me, but later, when i gave it more though, i realized that it does have some sense. When the victim is slowly turning into stone, she or he would probably try to move the parts which still aren't fully stone, thus making them crack a bit in the process.
At least it makes some sense to me .
