I liked that about Earthbound too! For a "childrens" game, it sure has a lot of references that, while going right over the kids head, are completely chilling when you understand them. Those guys in the fourside apartment building who threaten to KILL NESS by "accidentally firing at him". And then the crazy psychedelic bizzaro Fourside!
Alot of older games had that to them. I just can't get that level of satisfaction from recent games. Which is why I'm a Nintendo Junkie. Even from the GCN and Wii, the games still lack that kind of degree that they reached back in the 80's and early 90's.
I just don't know what's going on, but I can assume that they're running out of inspiration
