Painstaking but beautfiul

Thank you! When it comes to braiding something this long, it needs to be spliced every now and then or it will look more worn out as the braid goes on. I think I spliced it 5 times for this piece, it was agonizing.

Wow that looks amazing, im so tempted to have a crack at that myself. Ive done a couple of sheaths but nothing like that (and no, i do not have pics here) where did you learn the braide part?

A handy pamphlet I got from Tandy titled Lacing & Stitching for Leathercraft. It is only a few dollars and it has excellent pictures to accompany the instructions. This kind of braid takes a ridiculous amount of lace, about 9-10 times the length of your piece.

thank you, we dont have a tandy leather down here sadly, but we do have something else. next time i go there and i'll have a look and see if they have anything close to what you suggested. also wow that is a lot of extra, must have been a huge pain to pull it all through everytime

I spliced it about 5 times I think. When it comes to lacing distances like that you don't want to do it all at once. It wears out the lace as you pull it through.

wow, i did a snake skin belt for my father a while ago, probally took me close to 15 hours to saddle stitch around the entire thing. i ended up with about 5 times the length of the belt and still fell short of the end... though i hadnt considered the possibillity that pulling it through over and over again could cause the thread to wear down. I'll have to renember that for future refrence
