What is Reality - a story for the times
I am very nervous about this for two reasons.
First, this is a first for me - an audio book.
Second, because the subject matter is personal. It is a reflection upon our times, which is one of the reasons there is a Whackadoodle Inn, and... well... I'm an emotional old thing.
If it works out, I can do more audio stories.
Just... be kind...

"and the best place by the fire was kept for the storyteller," Jim Hansen's the Story Teller.
From the first word, all I can think about was the FDR fireside chats, though you have more of a John Henry Eaton voice then FDR. More your own voice though.
Ah, instead of twitting and twats, would be nice for some firesite chats like this more often perhaps. Messages of hope and the firmness of human resolution, spirit, and as the author Arthur Landis always described as Pugboo (old nonsense word meaning fairy or ethereal) goodness.
Yes the world is a good place.
Your candy topic was well noted, Neil Neil Gaiman has a excellent rant in American Gods that on the surface seems like a three page Tangent Rant on humming birds dying because they love and eat artificial sweeteners bought at the store, but these do not contain proper nutrients. When, this is a metaphor for the stories we tell and their nutrients to the human spirit and the conflict of old and new stories and the market versus traditional values.
If anything I must ultimately agree, there is no technological sound I despise more than the phone.
Nonetheless excellent voice work, and perhaps we will here some more. Maybe I should do the same, it has been a long time, but to quote "I have no tales for cozy inns or nice halls"
Well as said before your a natural and deserve that place by the fire at that shared cozy inn. *stares bundled in blankets on cold mountain top at radio (computer)*

You have a very pleasant voice for telling a tale... Yes I too agree this is a wonderful world filled with good and honest people. I hope you will take the time to do this again it was enjoyable putting a voice to the name...
As for those in the news media, they are on a par with those in the political circles... if you go by General George Patton's words, "Politicians are the lowest form of life." There is a reason they call it programming when dealing with radio and TV media. Everything presented has a political twist or spin... many times it has little to do with the fact or the truth that are pertinent in the matter.
Bright blessings and be safe out there

Huggs back at you...
There is something going on that the public is not aware of... I kept having the same dream, seeing two different outcomes for the last few years. That has changed over the last month. The outcome keeps getting brighter for most of us... some will never see the light of day. There is a reason there are earthquakes in places that have been seismically stable. Why have some high profile people just disappeared and others putting out strange social media posts... that seem to be coded... the lame stream media has been covering up much for years... it's all about to break.

I have to agree with the other commentators here: you do indeed have a great voice for telling tails. And the story itself is a good one; I agree that while there may be a part of us that likes something interesting to happen, we cannot survive mentally without some times of boring peace and calmness, let alone physically.
Thank you very much for sharing, and I certainly look forward to any more you have to share! :)

I decided to let this play as I was finally turning in for the night, shut my eyes and let it carry me away. Your voice has always been pleasant to the ears, and it works very well for an audiobook.
The story itself is certainly relatable, the media really exacerbating a cynical outlook on an already cynical situation, which is already not helped by the politicians.
The contrast between reality and the peaceful atmosphere of the Valley is quite the breath of fresh air, certainly a welcome one. I do fear for the railroad fellow's safety if he ever finds the inn however.
Stay safe out there, agapité mou fíle. Thanks for the story, and the morale boost...

Your stories in your own voice. Wow, V, I was swept immediately back to a quiet hour sitting at a table hearing that same voice at Megaplex. In the midst of that crazy fun event, talking with you in our own personal conversation, the first one we ever had in person, was my favorite of all the moments. Hearing your voice again reminded me how nervous I was to meet you, and how quickly that fear melted away as we were, in the strangest sense, already like old friends. You have a magical mind and a soothing narrative voice. I hope you read more to us.
well you certainly started my day off on the right foot Onic... thank you so very much... I think I will do this again. I was quite worried in the beginning... typical of people, I don't care to hear my voice all that much. I think of that first meeting too, and I've been looking forward to seeing you again this August...
