If you mean shapes... use reference, look at toys, Transformers, some robotic dinosaurs I feel I've seen in my childhood but can't remember... There are mechanical beasts in Yu-Gi-Oh too I guess?
Shading is much, MUCH harder, again you need to observe closely how metal behaves, how it reflects light, how contrasting the shades are and how shiny it is... or uh, try copying what some tutorials show step by step? Although I've stopped following tutorials, they either are overcomplicated and don't show the whole progress in depth, or the end result is... worse than what I can already do (and wouldn't help you learn anything useful, either).
