Spotted hyenas have enormous egos and believe they are the apex predators. They don't do diplomacy because they don't feel they need to be nice to any other species--that everyone else owes them respect because they're such badass warriors.
Kathy is caught between conflicting realities here--she has to have tact to get along with people, yet most high-caste hyenas look down on anyone who is perceived to be "nice." Being nice makes you look weak. Ruling with an iron fist is how the Crocutan social order works.

As a reader in my comics forum pointed out, Kathy has had a lot thrown at her in the last few weeks--emotionally and physically, she's exhausted, and pretty much dangling by her last nerve. Having a whore telling you how to behave is rather irritating to her. Having the most famous whore in the country, who just happens to be your fiance's chess partner, and who he neglected to mention owns the house he's taken you to, has REALLY gotten her annoyed at him.
It was intentional, but not because Koz took growth serum. I wanted to vary the "Cut'N'Paste" nature of the second panel in the last strip--I've had a really, really busy few weeks and am almost out of buffer, so I was trying to do a few cartoons as quickly as possible to get ahead.
I wanted to make the second panel look slightly different, and have Koz a little closer to the "camera," but I see that the background hasn't changed quite as much as I thought it did when I was working on it. The photo I am using for the set has a slightly fish-eye distortion to it, so I needed to hide the garbage can, which looked a little weird. I covered it with a word balloon in the first panel but then had to duck it out of frame in the second.
I also had to tinker with the running order of these strips. I realized that this one would explain why Kathy was sulking in her room, and why Jade went in to talk to her, if I implied that she had become furious with Fred earlier. But since this appears after the fact, I added the "I hope Miss Jade can smooth things out" comment to indicate that this is taking place about the same time as Jade is talking to Kathy, rather than sequentially.
