Name: Grudge
Species: Norway rat, unknown variety
Age: Unknown
Weight: Unknown
Birthplace: Jester's head
Eye colour: Red
Markings: As Jester's, but inverted. That is, he has a black body, with white spots where Jester's black ones would be. His hair is all black and slightly wavy. The diamonds around his eyes are white and the one on the right extends down the length of his face. His eyes are glowing red orbs and have no discernable pupil.
Extras: Is slightly less skinny than Jester. Both his ears are black and point downwards and he has no bells, just crooked barbs where they were once attached. He also has no ear tag and no rips in his ears. He never smiles
General: Grudge is the rat that lives in Jester's head http://www.furaffinity.net/view/358271/
He has no physical presence and is merely an elaborate and reoccurring hallucination Jester suffers from.
He is very black. Blacker than I would be able to colour digitally and still have looking as anything other than a blob. He seems to be able to melt into shadows, and can appear from them, or disappear into them.
Grudge (a fairly uninspired moniker I may end up changing one day) is actually all Jester's anger, hatred and despair personified, but Jester has yet to realise this and doesn't understand why hes plagued with visions of this creature.
As Grudge has no physical presence, he cannot actually touch Jester or really do him any harm at all. His attack is all verbal and he is the master at scathing put downs. He speaks in a very old medieval-esque elaborate way, which only serves to alienate Jester even more, for he often doesn't understand him.
Grudge never smiles, though he does occasionally flick between expressions of contempt and anger, his usual facial expression is eerily blank.
His main aim is to get Jester to vent about his experiences in the lab, hence he provokes and taunts him excessively, telling him he is worthless and he deserved his punishment in the lab. Provoking an aggressive response from Jester toward his past torment is the only way Grudge will ever leave him alone.
He tends to appear to Jester most of all when he is alone, as this gives him the best opportunity to mock and intimidate him, but he sometimes appears when Jester is with company, seemingly just to make him feel uneasy and insane.
The other rats in Jester's group are aware of Grudge, but only due to Faith (the only rat Jester ever opens up to) telling them. Jester himself will never speak about Grudge, and if questioned, he will deny him and insist the others are crazy for suggesting such a thing.
Pickles will occasionally mock him for it, but Faith will reprimand any rat he sees doing this, as he considers Jester's mental fragility a serious issue and not something to joke about.
It is usually understood by all, however, that when Jester stares vacantly into blank space, he is looking at Grudge. Jester has been known to sleep walk, apparently following Grudge, and wake up not knowing where he is or how he got there. In the lab, this was less of an issue. Now, it could prove fatal.
Jester very much dislikes Grudge, not only because of his belittling and aggressive tendencies, but because Jester so desperately wants to be 'sane' and leave his life in the lab far behind him, and Grudge is a constant reminder of his past tortures and his frail mental state. Jester is also painfully aware of how Grudge is superior to himself, physically and mentally.
Jester has never liked his skinniness or how lanky he is, so Grudge is shorter and has more muscle than Jester. He also has better coat condition, none of the medical issues of Jester and he is able to comprehend things Jester could not ever understand. His language is elaborate and poetic, his movement fluid and elegant and he is altogether a more beautiful rat.
Grudge was inspired by several things. Firstly, Jim changing his mask a while ago. His new mask was a sleeker, prettier and sexier version of his old Jester mask, and he grew his hair to suit. So I began doodling Jester but with Jim's new mask, considering changing him, but realised the new look just didn't have the same essence of character as it was that much more refined and attractive. This became a whole new character, but with obvious ties to Jester. What else other than an alter ego?
Secondly, the Deftones track 'Passenger' was largely responsible for, among other things, the way in which I imagine Grudge to speak. To me, he will only ever sound like Maynard James Keenan but with a medieval twist! The song manifested itself in my head as a duet between Jester and Grudge. Of course, I know the true meaning of the song is as far removed from such a scene as its possible to be, but it doesn't matter to me; that song will always remind me of Grudge and was largely responsible for his existence.
