Name: Faith, also known as 'Number Eight'
Species: Norway rat, hairless variety
Age: 6 months
Weight: 588 grams
Birthplace: University of Iowa
Eye colour: blue
Markings: None. Skin is pale grey
Extras: Faith is completely hairless save for a small downy patch of fluff on the back of his head. He doesn't even have whiskers. His ears are extremely ragged and the skin at the ends has died off so is thick and blackened. I am lenient about how his ears should look, as I work on the theory that bits fall off them from time to time. As long as they're nice and ragged, it doesn't really matter. He has 8 dreadlocks (4 either side) which are varying shades of green/grey. Has many, many scars, which, again, I am lenient about the placement of, particularly on his body. Being hairless means he would acquire new ones fairly often. However, the large one across his spine must be consistent, as must the one extending down from his right eye, and the one across his nose. He has a large patch of crudely tacked-on skin on his head. Faith is not an attractive rat and no effort should be made to make him appear as such.
General:
Faith is an ex laboratory rat, his allocated number was 8. He was bred as a precursor to Warlock and so spent his early days as a fighting rat before they realised he wasn't right for the job. He was intended to be used for breeding before his escape. Most of his scars, including the patch of skin on his head, were gained from his 2 brief excursions in the pit. However, the largest and deepest of his scars, the one across his backbone, was inflicted on him by his own mother who tried to kill him when he was a baby.
Faiths mother was a cancer experiment. A mute, tumour riddled shell of an animal that would scream all night and stagger about in her tank aimlessly. She killed his brothers and sisters when they were merely days old, and it was only by the lab removing Faith from her at a very young age that he survived. He was, for the most part, hand raised by people. The biggest issue Faith has is that he left his mother in the laboratory following their initial break-out when he had the opportunity to free her. He chose the safety of himself and his group over that of his own mother, and this has plagued him ever since.
Perhaps due to his fractured childhood, he has become very thick skinned and strongly distrusting of others. He is alpha of the lab rats in Six's absence and tries to do the best job he can, but is secretly very self doubting and doesnt believe he'll ever be as good as Six. However, he is a fantastic actor and puts up a front which hides this even from his own group. The Faith they see is fearless, confident, and self assured, but deep inside he is vulnerable and often scared. He suffers from depression and has tried to end his own life on two separate occasions. His depression usually presents itself as a lethal apathy, and both his suicide attempts have involved him simply laying down, doing nothing, and letting his death come to him. The rat he is closest to is Jester http://www.furaffinity.net/view/358271/ who is his beta, and he will tell him things that he would not tell anyone else. Jester is the only rat aside
from Six who knows the real Faith, and was the rat who on both occasions spurred him into getting up and carrying on when Faith considered it pointless.
Do not, however, assume this means he is a whiney, angsty emo character. I don't do those, except in parody. He can be melancholy, he thinks deeply about things and broods on them, and he isn't a happy bouncy rat, but his problems are real.
Faith will not tolerate weakness, petty squabbles or stupidity in his group, and he enforces his rules physically if necessary. He tends to shout.....a lot. Everyone has a huge respect for him, especially Zero who looks to him as a role model. Though it may not be immediately apparent, Faith has an excellent sense of humour, though it tends to be rather dark and macabre. He sometimes copes with unpleasant situations by making a humorous remark about
them, something which can upset the sensibilities of others. He can be harsh, and he isn't the rat to go to for a sympathetic ear; he rarely indulges others.
He is a capable fighter and is seemingly fearless in battle, with no aversion to blood. It was he who ripped out
the ear tags of each of the other members of the group in an effort to protect them from
detection.
