EDIT: A revised version is now up. Do check it out over at http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/319760
180 bpm (probably would've been fine at half that and condensed, but what fun is that? Let me cheat on the flute's pitch shifting, anyway, and probably sounds better for it.)
1:47 or so on a single pass, but uploaded with a full loop on it because I feel so very kind. Or something. FA's thing doesn't auto-loop so I did an extra-long export. There.
Mountain song! Wee! Because I had Woofle's on my MP3 player, went for a walk, it came up, and then I wanted to make one. : | Had some issues but figured it out.
Tried to switch up the lead instrument on a semi-regular basis. Don't say I never try to improve. XD Also, used some different drum samples trying to work with the location better. It's pretty short, but I had fun with it, and got to use my neato violin again. :3
If you like it, feel free to support it over on Newgrounds as well.

Issue with extending the release on the violin is that it starts to mute the shorter notes. Unless there's a better way to extend the sound, it's butchering the poor thing pretty fierce.
Granted, I'll never understand why sustain and release is acting like it's altering the attack in the process. Is there a better way to do this?

Additionally, in RPG music, you rarely have instruments that insist on attention like your violin/fiddle sample.
Here's a trick if you don't have a better fiddle sample: Let the notes linger just a little bit beyond the end, just so that they start blending into the next note and vary the attack of the notes. You can fake a legato and simulate a live performance.
Otherwise, I think this is going somewhere!

That's largely what blackhole was suggesting, really.
I'm having problems making the notes simply linger, however, which is pretty annoying seeing as it seems like it would be simple enough to do.
That aside, I've reverbed it out a bit, and in the process toned it down, but I'm not content enough with it to slap it online anywhere yet. :/
Thanks for the advice. I *am* refining this, it's just not going as easily as planned. :)

I think realism has to do with the fact I'd be surprised if this soundfont uses more than one or two audio samples and won't let me reduce the attack. I think I'd need something with more control, but question if I'm ready for such madness. I think I've a ways to go before I reach that level of finesse, or i'd stop looking up to Tenpei Sato and start trying to kick his musical ass.
Sadly I think realism's a tad beyond me at the moment. However, i have tried to improve the thing as best i presently can using the advice I've gotten from people, so if you care to see how it turned out, location is as follows:

It's stavi-violin2 or something like that. It's a soundfont, and I've gotten a few people desiring it, as it's not too bad. You can't alter the attack on it, tho, so faster notes have some problems, I fear. Still, it's serving me about as well as I'd ever expect a free soundfont to, if not more so. If you want it but can't find it, I can probably hook you up.
