***HAPPY EASTER 2020***
The story to this artwork is simple: A few dark mages are trying to perform an unholy ritual and our heroes Reptile and Kyle are trying to stop them.
The artwork itself was NOT simple... this is by far my most complex and time-consuming artwork of all times (and remember that I'm drawing Reptile since 1996)!
Why was it so difficult and what was my intention?
Well... I wanted to create
+ an artwork at night (more realistic night scene than before),
+ only a limited amount of special light sources (moonlight and magic spells),
+ characters shown at night with unusual colouring.
And that's really it... the COLOURING! Sure, the line art was cool and so on... but the entire project and scene lives from the colours.
And I love the final result!
Hopefully, you will enjoy it too.
^^
Drawing media:
Pencils, ink, brush, COPICS, markers, coloured pencils, acrylics (no digital media except adding some contrast)
Working time:
5 days (about 30 hours)

Yay, original Traditional Reptile work! I won't lie, I really miss Reptile in his traditional loincloth, haven't seen that in a very long while, it shows off his figure so much more . But the anatomy and lighting are amazing, as usual.!I really like the green scale texture lines that are subtle, but still visible. I've always had a hard time figuring out how to draw scales, I relate with the way you did it, though. I love how Kyle was drawn this time, your style works so well with him.
I am about to watch the drawing process video, excited to see how you work. Can't wait for the next pieces, despite the gaps they may have.

Hehehe... someone is happy to see a new TRADITIONAL REPTILE ARTWORK... yeah, I am happy too!
A huge project has come to a close. ^^
Yeah, enjoy the video. It shows that I really DID create this one by hand.
XD
And the loincloth has JUST been present in the previous artwork:

But I'm sure we will have new native style pictures soon. ^^
About the scales... yeah, I wanted to draw them less detailed this time due to the dark lighting. But in full daylight you can see every single scale!
XD

woah, i did not expect to see that one already ! when you explained it to me i imagined them being at the entrance of a cavern but not outside :o
that looks really good, the moonlight really gives a nice atmosphere to the picture, and seeing reptile and kyle side by side really shows the size difference between the two :D
and of course, seeing more reptile is always neat, for some reason i find that one picture with the traditional style to have kind of a vibe of your older pictures too :3

Yeah, I have time these days. XD But 30 hours was a whole lot of work! ^^"
The idea of the cavern was my original design... but when I started the composition I couldn't get it to work.
XD
And then I figured that a dark forest is much cooler!
Yeah, the size difference is always cool to see!
And about the lighting - yes, that was the most important aspect of the artwork... moonlight and magic light.

Hey, I guess the whole situation with the shitty virus helps you to create more stuff!
And yeah, I think light in this work looks especially realistic, not just because of dim night light, but indirect light too! And it's surprising that you still learning new techniques, considering how long you have been drawing Reptile and other characters.
Btw, I think it would be really cool to film the whole process of making a new artwork and then just speed up video in a video editor. Whatcha think?

Thank you very much!!
Well... the most difficult part was to make myself NOT TO USE the original colours.
For example, look at this here:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/16783711/
In this artwork... Reptile looks... well, just like he does at full day. He is perfectly lit, green and shiny!
But that would not work at night... we need much more blue and gray.
XD
But that was not easy... I had to force myself and did many practice drawings on separate paper sheets.
^^
THIS here works better... but it's digital so it was much easier:

As I mentioned before, the fact that you add the dark night environment with these set of colors and mixing them with the blue and green really gave this pic a good impression that everything in this scene is placed well and convincing too.
Everything here and every character appeals to the pic perfectly, and the shading work in a nocturnal time came out pretty nice as well.
And of course, what I like the most here is how you manage to make the textures of some parts of the pic like the trees, stones, and reptile´s scales with the inking work. Gives a nice volum and texture impression too and it blends nicely with the colors.

Aaawwwww... thank you so much for the comment and the nice feedback. :3
Yeah, you've seen some of the progress early on... ^^ But I'm happy that it turned out the way it is.
And thanks for mentioning the line art... after the colouring it is sometimes lost a little bit.
It's been difficult to force myself to.
.... use a completely different color set... but it was worth it.
Thanks again x3
Oh... and by the way... so far, nobody figured out a very special gag I've added to the scene.
XD

Throw A Holy Hand Grenade At Them; That will teach them!
I can just imagine that misty claw on the ground catching it and throwing it right back at them. :D
All the same, your traditional art style and its progression through the years continues to improve and amaze! Dat leg anatomy doe, it makes me want to challenge Reptile to a squatting competition.

Hehehe, a Holy Hand Grenade is pretty difficult to come by... XD Also, it's a very dangerous and unreliable weapon. ^^"
And sure, that claw would act like "WTF are you throwing at me?? Here, catch!"
Thanks for the comment I'm glad you like the result... and yeah, I am still trying to become better and more "brave" at using new techniques or colours.
Getting out of the "comfort zone" isn't easy... but this is was not done for "a quick buck" - this was done for myself and the fans.
X3
A squatting competition... sure, but Reppy would win!! XD
Also, he needs those muscles to jump and run very far!
