Latest addition to my
walt46-emulation series. Figured we were overdue.
Today's subject comes to you from the real world for a change, King Harald V of Norway. His grandfather, King Haakon VII, started life as Prince Carl of Denmark, second son of King Frederik VIII. As such, I have depicted him as a Norwegian Forest Cat, in line with Walt's portrayal of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (formerly Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark- incidentally, King Harald's second cousin once removed) as feline (see his entry for Prince William, Duke of Cambridge) as both are agnates of the House of Glücksburg that provides the ruling families of Denmark, Norway and -until 1974- Greece (if asked to draw Greece's last king, Constantine II, I'd likely go for a longhaired Aegean). Walt's reasoning was based on the blue lions on gold in the Danish coat of arms.
In addition to being the Duke of Edinburgh's kinsman by blood, King Harald is a second cousin of Edinburgh's wife, Queen Elizabeth II, being the grandson of Maud of Wales, youngest daughter of King Edward VII. This places him in distant succession to the British throne as the highest ranking foreign royal on the list (barring the immediate Royal Family, examples of people who rank higher than him in the succession are Queen Elizabeth's nephew, David Armstrong-Jones, Earl of Snowden; David Lascelles, Earl of Harewood {grandson of Mary, Princess Royal- only daughter of King George V}; and David Carnegie, Duke of Fife {great-grandson of King Edward's eldest daughter, Louise, Princess Royal}, all of whom are British subjects).
