Starting about 1968, some of the science fiction fans in the 'Twin Cities' of Minnesota began a bid to host & run the World Science Fiction Convention in 1973. They had a good time doing the bidding. As it turned out (in our reality) the actual 1973 World-con was held in Toronto. After a few years of thinking it over, the sf fans decided to continue their bid for "Minneapolis in 73"; attending the regional sf conventions, and holding bidding parties. (It was never specified if this alternate "Minneapolis in 73" con was supposed to be held in 1973 or 2073.) Sometimes Twin Cities fans continue to travel to current sf cons, and throw bidding parties.
