While i agree on the style part i think there are some parts that shouldnt be changed because they are what define a character. Think about, how much can you change something and that something remains being that thing and not something else? its like drawing "adolf hitler" wihout his moustache its a part of the character thats very characteristic of it
you really made a good point. And is something to keep in mind always when dealing with drawing or writing character you did not personally design and have widely known features. At some point the starting " character" risk to become merely a paintjob for your original character. Now AU can be an option but still had to get the original's vibe or it will be poinless.
