It was going well until Chloe figured out she was pregnant. Rey did the math and it was right around the time they had the three-way. So he rushes out and married Chloe before Borealis even knew. Eventually Chloe tells him. Chloe is estatic by the way. She's very excited to be a mom.
Then bam, twins. Borealis wants to do a paternity test on them to see if he's the father but Rey forbids it. Chloe in an attempt to not rock the boat further tells borealis to wait. Rey however knows it won't do him any good because, as irl law in most places, any kids born in your marriage are your kids. Rey has no intent on letting Borealis take what he considers to be his kids, whether they are of his blood or not.
Borealis does want to take them, and Chloe if she wants, to raise his kids with her and his girlfriends.

This is Rey just finding out his, at the time, girlfriend was expecting :)
