A cheerful and sociable campaigner—Quinn Carvalho is a fun-loving, free spirit whose breezy demeanor and affectionate nature enlivens all around him.


One could argue the life of Quinn Carvalho was marked at an early age by a series of exciting adventures which took him from one far-flung locale after another. The ocelot was born in São Paulo to magic users who settled the area upon matriculating into a local coven after marrying. Quinn’s father and mother were each aspirant mages themselves who both brought with them distinct influences in magical tradition from their native Manaus and Lisbon, respectively. It mattered little that the family belonged to a coven of mages as the Carvalho clan was every bit as ordinary as most everyone they knew in the affluent community of São Caetano do Sul. Quinn and his two siblings were raised in the Roman Catholic faith, and both their parents held down stable jobs in the commerce sector.

After Quinn turned eight, his own training began in earnest. Once the school year ended in early December, the ocelot was spirited away to either Europe or the Amazon rainforest to further his studies in the arcane arts. It wasn’t until Quinn turned twelve that he met the man who inspired his namesake: Conor Ó Cuinn. Conor was a neo-Druidic scholar who had met Quinn’s mother in São Tomé and Príncipe while volunteering to help the locals combat unregulated deforestation on the island. The two mages soon formed a unique bond during this ordeal, and many years later, the Irish hare took it upon himself to tutor her son, a precocious jungle cat in his own right, in the abstruse precepts of druidic magic. As a result of this esoteric tutelage, the ocelot designed his own uniquely formulated grimoire: a slim, inornate black tome he took with him everywhere.

Around the time he turned twelve, the family set upon their most exciting escapade to date. The business acumen Quinn’s parents had amassed through their associates in both mundane and magical realms eventually paid dividends as they revealed career opportunities in the United States. Before long, the Carvalho family had immigrated to Paradise Valley, Arizona, where they began to plant new roots in hopes of networking into Blutmond, the foremost confederation of monster hunters and allied magic users. With Quinn’s jovial nature and cosmopolitan background, the jungle cat found it remarkably easy to accustom to his new surroundings and meet new friends in short order at the KTR Center and Wedge Skatepark in nearby Scottsdale.

At fourteen, the ocelot was enrolled in Perihelion, a preparatory school in Des Moines, Iowa, where those families affiliated with Blutmond in the United States and Canada often sent their children to hone their craft and make contacts. While Quinn was more magician than huntsman, as always, the young man was still ever the social butterfly. Even at Perihelion, which up until a quarter-century ago was still somewhat distrusting of cunning folk, the outgoing ocelot used his charisma and natural charm to intrigue and attract a wide circle. Everything inevitably came to a head at graduation when the Cognoscenti, this society’s ruling body, selected Quinn Carvalho and seven of his peers for Hadeanstar, a paramilitary outfit of preeminent monster hunters. Little did they know, but the scope of Quinn’s adventures to come would dwarf whatever expectations either he or his parents first thought possible.
