This piece is about the spiritual energy of ancestral memory.
My great grandmother built a cabin in the 60’s which later became a constant in my life. A place of memory making and discovery.
Perhaps one of the most impactful events that took place there was when I met the black fox Ivan in person. I had previously been having dreams and visions of a black fox that I was very drawn to and one day, I came upon the real thing. It felt like a spell being cast, or a long awaited moment meeting completion. Perhaps it was a bit of my great grandmother’s magic checking in on her cabin and family.
This piece reminds us that nothing physical is constant, but energy remains and goes on impacting us. Without my great grandmother and what she built, my work would not nearly be what it is. I think it is so important that we look to the memory of those who came before us, to inspire us today.
