When Pride Rock gets a Mice infestation, instead of letting them scuttle around and burrow in the cracks of their home, to deal with this the King and the next male in line to the throne usually has a delicious binging of all the Mice within Pride Rock's walls. When it came to Simba and Kovu's first Mice Feast as King and Prince, Simba knew full well that his stomach could handle it after living off of loads of Bugs and Grubs of all different shapes and sizes and no matter what, they'd always end up in his big Lion gut. Kovu however, despite being given the best food they had in the Outlands to become their strongest warrior, hadn't had so much food at once. Especially when they would squirm and try escape as much as they could (even after he thought he'd swallowed them properly).
So whilst Simba knew to make sure to swallow them one by one for two reasons, to savour their sweet taste and to not have loads in his mouth at once to risk them all escaping his jaws. Kovu... did the exact opposite of this.
