This is the best thing that I've ever created, hands down. I set out to create a mixture of the cheshire cat and the cat with hands, something creepy to leer down at me from my desktop monitor, and I succeeded a bit too well - this thing is downright disquieting in person.
I hesitate to post this because even though it has been done for months now, none of the photos I have taken of it are worth a damn. Not a single one. I'll probably break my unofficial "one detail shot and a collage" policy because it really does deserve a closer look.
The body is super sculpey, the hands and teeth are cernit, which is a creepy creepy material. I made the eyes by creating an eye "base" out of sculpey, painting over it with acrylics (including some sparkly gold), and then dumping a ton of liquid sculpey on top. Baked the eyes and then sanded them to a smooth finish. I used a ton of tacky glue to glue the fur on, little scraps and bits which are mostly mohair and sheep rovings, and finished it off with acrylics on the nose and around the eyes, a dusting of pastel on the teeth and hands to make them look grimy, and some glossy sculpey glaze on the eyes, nose, teeth and fingernails to make them obscenely shiny.
I managed to watch the entirety of the X-files (all 10 seasons) while gluing fur onto this sucker. Make of that what you will. :)
